So it's game 3 or 4 of the ALCS (...the one that they never started, got rained out...)
Im selling ALCS programs by Gate D.
It's raining, raining,...20,000 people are at Fenway anyway, hoping the game gets played.
Gates were open for an hour when someone 'in the know' comes over to where im selling and tells me on the down-low that the game got postponed. She told me they were going to announce it to the ballpark in 20 minutes or so, so I should go cash out and high-tail it out of there to beat the crowd...
So I run down to where the memorabilia concessions vendors get their goods, and where they cash out...which is under the third base grandstand, just past where the visiting team has a room for wives, families, etc...its also where the visiting team enters/exits their locker room.
So I cash out (steal a few ALCS programs for my collection) and start heading out. By now they made the announcement that the game got cancelled. Now the Yankees never got changed out of their street clothes, so they were all ready to leave.
Security blocks off the hallway from fans leaving Fenway as the Yankees start to come out of the clubhouse. Im trapped now in a hallway with the Yankees. I cant leave. I had a baseball and a pen in my pocket, and I think about going to ask Bernie Williams for an autograph (he was the only one out of the clubhouse so far that I recognized in street clothes...) Ive met alot of baseball players since I work at Fenway, so im not very star-struck anymore. I decide to just leave the players alone. Jeter comes out. Rivera comes out. They are all in a big group about 30 feet from me, just millling about with their families, waiting for security to help escort them to their busses...
Again, im about 30 feet away from the group, just sitting on a grounds crew tractor, waiting to be able to go home...
A side door opens up...literally two feet away from where I was sitting.
It's a guy in a trench coat.
It's Reggie Jackson.
I'm not too jaded to NOT ask Reggie for his autograph.
I stood up off the tractor, produced the ball and pen and asked Reggie Jackson if he could sign my baseball.
I'm standing toe-to-toe with him...I asked very politely...and he ignores me. He didnt look me in the eye, instead, he glared right through my chest, took a step to his right, and walked away. Never acknowledged that I existed.
Im sure that it didnt help my cause that I had my yellow Red Sox vendor's uniform on...with a big "B" on my hat...
I really dont hold any grudge to him...he doesnt have to sign my baseball. But to not even look me in the eye...
I do still respect him and I wont badmouth him at all for not signing for me.Maybe this is what a heroine addict feels like after getting a long awaited fix, shooting up in the corner of some abandoned building and just not giving a fuck about what the rest of the world thinks...TATTOO"Comment

Nice story PA. Too bad you didn't grt his autograph though. But, it's sounds like you handled and have handled the situation very well. Maybe Reggie was in a bad mood or had things on is mind. Schilling blew another game last night. The Yanks are 1 game out. It's going to be a dogfight right until the end.
I hope Schilling continues to be the closer.Talk Classic Rock - The Official Message Board For Classic Rock -- Now on XenForo!Comment

Eleven runners left on base, including the bases loaded in the top of the 10th...Nixon made a bad read on the last hit...he should have played the carem instead of trying to catch it...
cant say as I'd pin this one on Schilling...Maybe this is what a heroine addict feels like after getting a long awaited fix, shooting up in the corner of some abandoned building and just not giving a fuck about what the rest of the world thinks...TATTOO"Comment
