John Smoltz to play one more year...

    The Braves...of course...have new ownership...

and Smoltz has an 8 million dollar option for next year...many think the brass won't pick up...

if they don't...Smoltz has said he'll find himself a nice little contender...and do whatever they need him to do...

What a career this guy has had...

    great closer...probably a greater starter...

wouldn't seem right if he wasn't a Brave...

Didn't they get him from the Tigers?...or was it the Yankees?

he's got that Clemens like tenacity...

and he's quite often forgotten in today's game...

      the only Braves power pitcher...

Someone asked him about comparing him to Eckersley...and he went off...

he said, "Look, had I stayed a starter...those merits alone are worthy as great statistics...the fact that I was a closer bares nothing on it. I just happened to have a few seasons as a closer as well...and they were pretty good..."

If I recall hearinig correctly (and it was a while ago, so it could just be a beer-addled brain), I believe the Braves got him from the Tigers....... and I want to say it was for Doyle Alexander. Why the hell that name would stick out is beyond me.

          No...it was for Doyle Alexander...

          I remember...at the time...

Doyle ran off 7 in a row...I think...for the Tigers...and it looked like a good deal...

          well...nearly 20 years later...lmfao...ooops...

but I think Smoltz started with the Yankees before the Tigers...

Ahh, that I have no clue about. But can you imagine what that would have done for them during those years they were close before and after their big run in the late 90s? That could have changed quite a bit of stuff!
