        Vai's a freak of nature technician to be sure but Satch plays with a lot more depth and soul.

            I would agree. Vai is THE most technically gifted guitarist ever as far as I know. But there isn't a lot of substance. I prefer Satriani because he is a lot more melodic and soulful. Besides, Satriani taught Vai.

                Never thought the who taught who thing meant an awful lot.

                If Mick Mars had taught Vai acoustic for a couple of weeks when he was at grade school showing him his major and minor chords then in every article for the next 20 years would it say "Mars who taught Steve Vai guitar"?
