GN'R Bassist: 'Chinese Democracy' Almost Done

Guns N' Roses bassist Tommy Stinson told the Pioneer Press earlier this week that the long-awaited new GN'R album "Chinese Democracy" "is being finished as we speak," reports Blabbermouth.net.

When pressed to elaborate on what could possibly be left to finish on a record that has been at least a decade in the works, Stinson said "some vocal parts and mixes," adding that once the band decides what songs make the final cut, GN'R will, oh yes, tour. "You know, it'll come out probably sooner than later, I can just about assure you," he said. "I've been told as much, anyway. Without giving a date, it'll be sooner than hell freezing over."

After the current tour to support his solo debut, "Village Gorilla Head", Stinson goes back to GN'R — assuming that album actually comes out — and hopes to produce some new bands and maybe stretch out into film scoring. "My goal this year is to do everything better," he said. "And to do a lot more of it," he said.

In other news, guitarist Richard Fortus has quit Guns N' Roses and has joined Nine Inch Nails, according to The NIN Hotline. "Given that former Nine Inch Nails' guitarist Robin Finck was working with Guns N' Roses, this, of course, only makes sense," reads a posting on the web site.

If true, Fortus' departure will be the second time a Guns N' Roses guitarist has left the group in a little over a year. Back in late 2003, guitarist Buckethead became fed up with Guns' inability to complete an album or tour and stopped working the band, his manager said last March.

This album won't be released as long as Axl is alive. As soon As he is dead it will be released and everybody will be like, "Oh, isn't this a great album, it's been worth the wait, hasn't it? Didn't Axl have a great voice?" etc

Why do people do that? In the words of Lemmy; "If somebody's a bastard when they are alive, then they still are when they die. It's just, now, they are a dead bastard." Totally agree.

I think when it is released, it's going to be a pile of shite anyway. I think out of all the members of the 'AFD' line-up of the gunner's, he was the weakest-he is a bad singer.

Besides, Velvet Revolver are already better than Guns 'N' Roses.

The new issue of Classic Rock (British mag) has an article with Tommy Stinson - former bass player for the late, great eplacements, and currently the bassist for Guns.

It also has a photo of Dave in the "2004 photo yearbook" section.

Yea, but it doesn't say good things about the gig. Aside from that-excellent mag. It gains back the points it lost from the Dave slagging off by giving BOBW a shite review. I believe they said that the new Van Hagar songs sound like they were only written so they would be able to say "here is a new one" on tour.

Appetite was an excellent album. But like I said, he fucked up a good thing in GNR the same way Eddie fucked up a good thing in VH. Ironically, Eddie was more productive then than Axl is.

Maybe Axl Rose should go away and Axl Foley should replace him.

They caption with Dave's photo said that he looked "healthy and fit", but that his show was sort of like seeing a Van Halen tribute band that happened to be fronted by Dave.

I kind of agree. Elsewhere, there's a thread asking why Young plays Eruption. When I'm at the show, I'm asking the same thing. The time that is spent listening to a reinterpretation of Ed's licks could be time playing "Experience" or "Sensible Shoes" (a song that sounds GREAT live).

With this simple tweak the show would be established SO much further into a DAVE experience.

P.S. The last time I saw Dave was at the Beacon here in NYC. The marquee outside actually read (I'm making up the dates, I don't remember exactly):

                    5/23 Dalai Lama

                    5/25 David Lee Roth

                    5/26 Margaret Cho

I thought that was perfect: the halfway point between the Dalai Lama and Margaret Cho resides Diamond Dave!

P.P.S. I know this is a GNR thread. But ultimately this is a Dave site. Deal with it.
