The state of today´s rock music!

Had an hour to spend at our local "mega" CD store. Wanted to check out what was new and interesting in terms of hard rock and heavy metal.

Ended up getting a 3 CD set called "Emancipation" by "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince"!

    Nuff said!!

what the media call rock is 'teenagers screaming their heads off and going on about being dumped and how much they hate life'

        it's true

we really need a band who will kick modern music up the ass. Just like Van Halen did to disco in the 70s!

True, and usually the guy singing how shitty life is comes from a nice well-off middle class background where he never had more than a zit on the nose to worry about!

I think there are plenty of GOOD new hard rock/metal bands out there...the only problem is that they are not THAT well known.

I bring them up whenever possible, but check out dragonforce. They are actually supporting Maiden round most of Europe (sadly, not in the UK).

They are a cross between Dio's lyrics/Priest's anthems/Priest-Maiden melodys/Thrash speed/Priest-Maiden vocals/Prog Metal (mainly because their songs are around 6-7 minutes long).

They have 2 albums out at the moment

                    VALLEY OF THE DAMNED (2003)
                    SONIC FIRESTORM (2004)

Saw them live as well, and they are EXCELLENT.

                    Get free MP3s at www.dragonforce.com

Anyways, there are others, but the majority are not well-known. Of course, there is The Darkness, love them or hate them, you've got to admitt, they have achieved a lot. There is Jet, who made a good debut, with a handful of GOOD hard rock songs. They are kind of too rock 'n' roll for indie and too indie for rock 'n' roll. Then, there is Velvet Revolver, who, despite the fact that they are all experienced, they are technically a new band.

There are a lot of good new prog bands as well.
