I agree with "Hurt", the Johnny Cash version, especially the video.

      I agree with Opeth too.

"Cause we've ended as lovers" by Beff Jeck.

"I am inside" by Alice In Chains.

"On my own" by Kingston Wall.

      FUCK IT, I'm depressed.

      "What's the difference
      Between you and me
      That makes it so hard
To live together in the same flat
      'n' what's the use
      For fighting
You've got nothing to fight for
And you're only wasting your time
      I wanna be
I wanna be on my own
      Where have you been
      'n' what were you doing
      All these stupid questions
Before I go to bed alone
      How 'bout tomorrow
      Where you gonna be
      All these stupid questions
Before I go to bed alone
      I wanna be
      I wanna be
      On my own..."

As far as Pink Floyd... "Cirrus Minor" (on "More") is their most depressing tune IMO.

But I think that King Crimson's "Starless" (on "Red") makes it even better when it comes to getting you down.

It's pretty long (12'18''), starts slowly with bass, drums, guitar, sax and mellotron, presenting the main theme (Robert Fripp is in the stratosphere); then comes the weary, but powerful voice:

        "Sundown dazzling day
        Gold through my eyes
But my eyes turned within only see
        Starless and bible black

        Old friend charity
        Cruel twisted smile
And the smile signals emptiness for me
        Starless and bible black

        Ice blue silver sky
        Fades into grey
To a grey hope that all yearns to be
        Starless and bible black"

After the last chorus ("Staaaarless aaaaaaaaand BIble blaaaaaaaaaaack"), a very long bridge begins, the musicians playing incredibly well (the bassist, the drummer - Bill Bruford - and the guitarist ahead, weaving a hellish and absolutely beautiful track up to an awesome climax, after which they bring back to the main theme in the cool way of the beginning.

"Starless" (and the whole album, "Red") is a definitive must.
        Very dark...
        ... but most brilliant!

          I can’t remember anything
Can’t tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
          This terrible silence stops me

Now that the war is through with me
I’m waking up I can not see
That there is not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now

Hold my breath as I wish for death
          Oh please god,wake me

Back in the womb it’s much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But can’t look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I’ll live

Fed through the tube that sticks in me
          Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me

Hold my breath as I wish for death
          Oh please god,wake me
Now the world is gone I’m just one
Oh god, help me hold my breath as I wish for death
          Oh please God help me

          Darkness imprisoning me
          All that I see
          Absolute horror
          I cannot live
          I cannot die
          Trapped in myself
          Body my holding cell

          Landmine has taken my sight
          Taken my speech
          Taken my hearing
          Taken my arms
          Taken my legs
          Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell

God this is one of Metallica's Best Songs. One, is pretty depressing but pretty awesome. Anyone else think KoRn did a decent cover of this at MTVIcon. Its just hard to believe Metallica auctually used to be a talented band.
Still waiting for a relevant Browns Team

Me too! Never understood the appeal (though Morrison's charisma was undeniable)! Ridiculous OTT drama queen. Terrible stuff.

                    No. That's a sort of 1920s Germany-sounding pop song...cabaret/pop.

I love the DOORS. One of my favorite bands ever. Great musicians, good songwriters. Definitely melodramatic, but that really works for me.

"Patches" by Clarence Carter. That song used to kill me when I was a kid.

"Something in the way" by Nirvana. Easily the most depressing Nirvana song.

I love FLOYD. But I definately have to listen in small amounts, and throw out all the razor blades, and empty any gun chambers before listening to "The Wall."
