    Whangbar FUCKING J. Guitarstring????

Just got back from Yngwie FUCKING J. Malmsteen.

Only stayed for about an hour and then left.

    1. Dude has lost some weight and looks good.

    2. Can play as well as he ever did.

    3. Brings nothing new to the table.

    4. Incredible to watch...for about an hour.

    5. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...............

This was the 4th time I have seen him. Possibly the last, unless he opens for someone I really want to see.

The mix got a bit better, but pretty much sucked ass.

Mostly due to the room and the location of the stage.

Oh well. At least I got to see some heavy music, in a couple of ways.

3rd time I have seen him in 4 years now. First time was 1986 opening for AC/DC.

Singer was great. Bass player could not be heard, keyboardist could be heard just a little, drummer could be seriously heard. Kickdrums were mud, sucking the life out of everything else in the mix.

So as a result it was mostly drums and vocals, and you could slightly hear Ygor doing his thing.

7 Stacks of Marshalls, with 1 head per cabinet (2 heads per stack).

Was standing outside getting high by the tour bus when a roadie opens the a luggage compartment underneath and hauls out a 200-watt Marshall Major head. Something ya do not see very much of.

    Kinda neat.

    End of review.

HA! My older Bro saw that tour...I was all jazzed to hear what he thought of Yngwie...

"He sucked! It was one long guitar solo...If 'ya wanna jack off for a 1/2 hour...DO IT IN PRIVATE!"

I know the feeling man....3 times is usually the charm.....

    After that it's kinda overkill

Sounds like a typical Yngwie show.

        Doesn't matter...

        he's still the greatist!

I wish he would have made an album with Dio...

How come none of these virtuoso guitarists can write for toffee?

          Malmsteen, Satriani, Michael Angelo etc.

All fantastic guitarists but where are the tunes?

I'm trying to think of a virtuoso who can write a song....

            ....still trying....

at least Yngwie attempts it with his songs (not the instrumentals. I mean songs like You Don't Remember...)

Satch and Vai....have they ever written a song?

EVH used to be able to write good songs....(I think he's the one who wrote most of the CVH songs, or was it DLR?)

Yeah....there is only one virtuoso who consistently writes killer hard rock music and that is Michael Schenker.

I will ALWAYS go see him, as a)I have only seen him once so far, and b) the material kicks ass!!!

                    what about Paul Gilbert?!

I think he's pretty good at writing songs as well....

Yes he is grate, but his work is not from the early-80s NWOBHM invasion era time period decade year revolution thang dimension......

Actually I wrote a review of a recent Racer X album (where they did a kickass version of BOC's "Godzilla") a couple of years ago and got an email from Paul about it. He was glad I liked it. I met Mr. Big one time back in the mid-90s. It was bizarre hanging around with a flock of musicians all of whom were almost as tall as I was....cool guys though.

And one of my most irritating episodes in life is that there was a friend of a friend there, with a camera. She took a bunch of pics of yours truly hanging out with them. My friend actually forgot who it was that was taking picures that night, and he never was able to find her to get the photos.

                      Oh well.

Michael Schenker just has more of a straight-ahead rock feel on his songs that I kinda like. And, even though Paul Gilbert writes great stuff, I much prefer the MSG-era songs over ANYTHING Paul Gilbert will ever write.

                      Just my opinion.
                      My preference.
