I would like to add King Diamond's "Abigail" to that list.

I saw him both nights in concert here in NYC last summer, and he fuckin' ruled... even with his voice shot.

    BTW, King Diamond is KING.

    Andy LaRocque is NO JOKE.

    HAIL SATAN!!

        I don't know...

Granted, Diamond's lyrics are a bit over the top, for sure...and his singing is love-it-or-hate-it, but the music is really what makes up for whatever shortcomings there are, I think.

Mercyful Fate remains one of the best metal acts ever, even if they were virtually Judas Priest clones taken to the Nth degree.

He's the clown that claims he has special evil powers that allow him to do such things as levitate objects and people etc.

It's a shame he can't use those powers to fix his voice!

Of course, there's nothing wrong with his voice, per se...it's his trademark squeel, and like I said before, people either love it or hate it.

Mercyful Fate, and really his own solo act, are outstanding accomplishments, musically - he's left behind him a trail of quality work and the MF/KD fanbase is still massive to this day.

King's absolutely one of the legends of '80's metal and was a definite influence on the more extreme genres today...they all site him and MF as a big influence.

It's not for everybody, but there's no denying that it had a lot of impact over the years - moreover, KD's "The Eye" is one of the twenty best metal albums ever recorded, I think.
