What's up with all the face paint? What happened to bands like Metallica & Megadeth & Slayer that let the music do all the talking? I could see maybe 1 or 2 bands doing the makeup bit, but all of them? It seems as common as ripped jeans and bandanas in the 80's.

Slipknot? No clue. I downloaded a bunch of their stuff for my niece and got her a poster for Christmas. Whatever.
Stayed in the same hotel as Slipsnot! Ran into a few of them in the elevator and told them I just got into town and didn't know they was playing! They gave me two tickets right then and there for that night! Not a big fan! System of a Down was way better! Their feeble attempt at being scary is a hoot! The world doesn't need that kind of crap! They had everyone get down on their knees! Here is my wife and I the only ones standing up in a crowd of about 8,000 people! I would not kneel to their dumb asses!

Not the heaviest for sure. Never claimed they were. But they didn't paint their faces or wear costumes. Well, Hetfields black sleeveless jersey with black jeans was kinda monotonous. But why do these bands have to look like King Diamond to be heavy? Look at Pantera. They were just drunk.

Kreator was the best thrash band of the 80's, IMO.

They are all a bunch of posers.

If they really want to impress me, why don't they just kill themselves on stage?

They are always trying to be the 'heaviest' band on the planet.

That whole shtick is fucking laughable.

When a band kills themselves onstage, then they will get my voate.

Until that time, NONE OF THEM can be considered to be that heavy.

It is all just trying to promote an image with no real basis in fact.

Kinda like all the 'heavy' shouter bands manufactured by the major record labels these days.

                Oh they are so angry.

                Gee...I am soooo impressed.

                NOT!

how did we end up discussing thrash bands in with Black Metal?

                      Completely different IMO.

Kreator, were a good band, Testament would also be in the running for best thrash band....

                        Who knows...

Kreator still ARE a good band - absolutely the best of the 80's thrash acts still active today...

I don't know if I'd call Testament thrash so much as I would speed metal...

Just read the whole story. Those dude's (Norwegian Black Metal) were cuntpletely disillusioned with Christianity's effect on Nordic/Celtic/Viking culture.

Bands like Venom and Manowar were running for cover when the shit hit the fan.
