But "heavy" in that sheer thundering power kind of way, I'm not sure.

Thrash has always been my favorite sub-genre of music, but I've never heard anything as heavy as Kyuss-except maybe C.O.C. Methinks those two are neck and neck.

              Cheers Rustoffa!

Mastodon are the fucking best new metal band on the fucking planet. Possibly the best for 10-15 years. Period.

              Much appreciated.

                Indeed.

But have you checked out the Crowbar vid's in this thread.

They are ultra-Sabbath heavy, might turn it into a three horse race...

                  Agreed.

BUT...I listened to In the Arms of God today and I came to the conclusion that there is NOTHING as heavy as that. COC just gets heavier and heavier with each album. They've evolved into at least three different types of bands over the years (Hardcore, thrash, now stoner.) I've loved them for many years and all the eras have been fuckin' awesome , but I think I like the Pepper Keenan stuff best. He brought a whole new kind of heavy to the band.

Absolutely, they became a GREAT band when Pepper joined.

In The Arms of God is fantastic, I never get tired of listening to it.

The production is St Anger-esque (ie rough and non-existent) but it really works, right?

There just isn't a bad song on their records from Deliverence onwards....

Well, me and Sparkie Have debated this subject many times. She doesn't quite agree with me but I gotta put Fu Manchu near the top of my list. Maybe not Heavy in a speed/aggresion way. Just plain HEAVY............
They are doing a cover of DOA on their soon to be released EP.
I can't wait to hear this VH classic done Fu Manchu style. This band kicks serious ass.

                            Excellent Tiki.

There are some more videos from these guys in the other pages of this thread (great live footage I found.)

They are ultra heavy like Kyuss in that booming, pounding kind of way...

Tiki is crazier than a fuckin' hoot-owl if he thinks I said Fu ain't heavy. I rate them third in heaviness after Corrosion and Kyuss.

Incidentally, Fu has a new tune, "Hung Out to Dry," up at their MySpace page. Excellent song, it's da shit!
