Will this Brown Brigade Band Be Any Good?

    Brown Brigade

Brown Brigade is a reggae influenced heavy metal band created by Dave "Brownsound" Baksh.

The existence of such a band was first made official on Thursday, May 11, 2006 when Baksh, previously a member of Canadian punk rock band Sum 41, announced he would be leaving the band that he had been a member of for the last 10 years. The split was based on the difference between the musical direction of Sum 41 and where Baksh wishes to take his young career. Brown Brigade will have a classic metal sound, which is the music that Baksh has been longing to write and play since childhood. The music of the band is expected to be comparable to the sound of Iron Maiden, says Baksh.

According to an article by the Rolling Stone in May 2006, Brown Brigade has currently recruited bassist Vaughn Lal (Dave's cousin), drummer Lee Fairlea, guitarist Craig "The Craigulator" Pattison (Dave's guitar tech with Sum 41).

Dave Baksh also stated that the band will have their own mascot much like Iron Maiden with Eddie the Head and Megadeth with Vic Rattlehead. According to Baksh the mascot will resemble a brown knight.

The band recently announced on their website that they have hired a lead singer named Travis Sanders and are currently working on an album that they hope will be available sometime in 2007.

The band signed to Aquarius Records in September 2006.

I heard about this band over the summer. I have high hopes as Dave "Brownsound" seems to have a great appreciation for eighties and classic metal/hard rock. My only apprehension would be that the producers would attempt to make it too commercial and Dave's love of metal will be all but lost.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this release in the new year.

It could be a winner, Dave was definitely Sum 41's biggest asset. Iron maiden and Reggae seem like a strange mix, but it could work. Should be an interesting listen. I just hope they have a better singer than Sum 41 had.

      Sounds promising. Check 'em out.
