    Saw Paco DeLucia last night.

I lucked out a couple of weeks ago when I called in to a Toronto jazz fm radio station and won a pair of tix to see Paco at Massey Hall in Toronto. As my luck would have it they were front row centre. Sweet.
Like most guitarists who know of him , I'd first heard him on the early 80's album "One Night in San Francisco" with Al DiMeola and John McLaughlin way back in the days of shred.

It was a treat to be that close to watch the master of Flamenco guitar. His backup band consisted of 2 female vocalists ,2nd guitarist, percussionist, a smokin bassist , and a keyboardist. All looked to be under the age of 30. The next generation I guess. All very talented.
Incredible to watch how fast he can pick using only his fingers. Amazing!

    A few pics I took.

Hm, he's grown a beard. I remember seeing him on Performance Channel with some jazz dude, and he was using a pick while Paco was using his fingers. I really admire his talent as a guitarist, but some people I've talked to say he's a bastardised version of Spanish guitar music. Not sure what they mean about that considering I've listened to all sorts of guitarists like Andrea Segovia, Wes Montgomery, John Williams, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed (I know we're crossing genres) etc. and Paco really does know what he's playing. Thanks for the pictures! *^_^* \m/

I was expecting very traditional spanish/flamenco stuff. But I was very impressed. He played some pieces unaccompanied that were incredible. Moody and orchestral. Very non traditional stuff. Very captivating ,you could hear a pin drop at some moments.
            Amazing !
