    Overkill

I saw these guys again last night in NJ and they always deliver, by far a very underrated thrash band, and they always slay live.

They've been one of my faves for well over twenty years. Found their own sound from the get-go and never strayed from it.

Lifted from Dave Ling's Diary Fri 5th OCT 07

        Link - http://www.daveling.co.uk/diary.htm

"And as for OverKill... has there ever been a more facile, generic, empty-headed combo on the face of the planet? And yet Bobby 'Blitz' Ellesworth have somehow released more than 20 albums and been signed by Johnny Zazula - the man responsible for discovering Metallica, Anthrax and Testament - not once but twice, most recently for his current label Bodog Music. No wonder the new album is called 'Immortalis'; OverKill are like cockroaches, they just won't sodding well die, more's the pity"

Man, I know I've seen these guys live, but it was eons ago... I just don't remember what tour it was.

I really got into Overkill for a minute back in the 'Taking Over / Fuck You' days (before it was 'Fuck You And Then Some'...). When I bought the cassette of 'Fuck You', Metal Blade had the cover turned inside-out, so as not to offend anyone with the middle finger cover! Actually calling your album 'Fuck You' was a pretty ballsy move at the time...
            :D

Saw them on Gigantour. Love their sound, but they tend to make the same record over and over again à la AC/DC.

Well...Overkill throws out a piece of poop once in a blue moon, but by and large their stuff is overall good.

Horrorscope was the best thrash album of 1991, period...Merrit Gant and Rob Cannavino were damn near PERFECT on that album together, amazing considering they were both essentially new to the band...the cover of Frankenstein was vicious, the songs were outstanding - very much a defining album for them...

Overkill are a great band, and consistent too.

I'm not too sure that they've ever made anything revolutionary, or anything that is a "classic", but that doesn't really matter. They kick ass, and they've always been true to themselves.

Haven't heard the new one yet, but I'm confident that they will deliver.

Well, it certainly would not have had that title had it come out in '90 :D

When I was in my mid twenties I got this hysterical woman living next door. That 40 year old bitch was always complaining about noise and everything. The day before I moved out of that appartment I decided to give her a present. Put on the Overkill song "thanks for nothing" on the repeat mode on a old CD player as loud as possible and left the house......I hope she still thinks of me once in a while

My buddy knows Merrit from Vineland, NJ.

I remember seeing Merrit in some not so great cover band in Vineland a couple years after he left Overkill. Boy what a step down.
