The first U.K. album is absolutely epic.

                The lineup:

John Wetton (Asia, Roxy Music, King Crimson) - Vocals, Bass

Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson, Brand X) - Drums, Percussion

                Allan Holdsworth - Guitar

Eddie Jobson (Roxy Music, Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa) - Keyboards

I guess this one falls within the artsy/fartsy/fusion-type rock of the seventies? Nonetheless, this thing rocks and what little Holdsworth's on it, it's awesome and not like every single album he makes (excluding "Road Games") that sounds the same, IMO.

If I also remember correctly, I'm pretty sure U.K. opened for VH during their first headlining tour? I cannot remember but I'm almost positive that I've read that they did.

U.K. had other albums minus Holdsworth and Bruford which blew but this one's a classic.

If one's a musician, it's worth checking out cos it has a lot of brilliant work. Especially the songs "Thirty Years" and "In The Dead Of Night."

Also and I might as well mention this one cos it also has both Wetton and Bruford. Check out "Red" by King Crimson. Another great record, IMO.

                        A few...

                        Altura - Mercy (1996, I think?)

Mostly it's in the vein of Dream Theater, and this was the only album they put out prior to splitting up, but it's very good...

                        Blitzspeer - Blitzspeer Live (1990)

Blitzspeer was a GREAT live band...so good, in fact, that their debut was this live EP. They followed it up with a studio album in 1991 (or 1992), but surprisingly enough, for as good as a live band as they were, they couldn't really hack it in the studio and were obviously still finding their legs. They split up not long afterwards, but I think the lead vocalist is now playing guitar in Monster Magnet...

Fear of God - Within the Veil (1991)

I'd heard rumors of a thrash metal band with a female lead singer in early 1990 called Detente, and heard that they'd signed to Warner Bros. and changed their name to Fear of God, so I figured I'd better check it out. Only other hard metal singer I'd ever heard of was Sacrilege, so...I was very pleasantly surprised! Not really thrash, but more goth/metal. Definitely innovative. Seemed like a strange combo to peeps I introduced it to (females and hard metal...no Lita Ford bullshit here), but with the influx of goth/prog/death metal bands now featuring female vocalists, I guess Fear of God kinda predates them all...

Forced Entry - Uncertain Future & As Above So Below

These guys came out of Seattle in the late '80s and put out these two albums, in addition to an EP called "The Shore". Uncertain Future isn't quite as good as their second album (As Above, So Below), but I can ABSOLUTELY say that both albums hold up with anything anybody else was doing...Overkill, Testament, Slayer, Anthrax, whoever else...why Forced Entry weren't able to continue on and make it work, I don't know, but these two albums are fucking outstanding...

I would recommend ANYTHING by Kyuss: "Blues for the Red Sun" is easily their best album, but they are all spectacular and totally unique. They should have been huge.

I thought that the Supersuckers had been making records just for me all of these years, LOL! "Evil Power..." is a great good time rock n roll album, with consitently strong songs and great lyrics. "Stuff and nonesense" is a great love song. Cool Manchu baby!

Clutch! Immense band, kinda stoner rock does boogie. Neil Fallon is a one-off. I would recommend this to everyone, one of the best heavy bands of our time. "Pure Rock Fury" and "Robot Hive" are also great records. Great to find someone else who digs 'em! :D
