Just out of curiosity, why'd his voice go away? I mean, I can pretty much guess it was the meds, But I'm wondering if his people ever coughed up a reason. Doesn't seem like he had the kind of voice that was going to blow out (A la Brian Johnson, etc)

Interesting...I'll watch it when it comes on "Movies on Demand".

I try like hell to keep things all fluffy bunnies and pink daisies. But brutal truth smacks me in the ass all the time.

Thats the thing, by 2005 he had no voice left.

My curiosity about the movie is how they have been able to manipulate footage of a couple of weeks of rehearsals of someone who was very ill and had lost his singing ability years ago into something that gives the impression that he was going to be great.

Yeah, it was something MJ did back in the 80s. It was in 3D and whatnot. I remember it being cool, but again, I was 9.

Yeah, it sucks. Unless the wine festival is going on.

Used to go down there every year for Citrix iForum. Skipped out one day and spent the day drinking our way through each country. That wasn't so bad!

I guess that's the whole point I'm trying to make. I had forgotten what a talent he really was. But in order to really see it, I had to take out all of the other factors in this equation.

I'm sure there was movie magic involved, but once you see him dancing and singing, I completely forgot about all of that.

Not to mention, the technical aspect of the concert. It would have raised the bar for everyone.

I watched the film and it seemed like his voice was mostly back. Better than he sounded in years.

Sesh... In the rehearsals there wasn't any backing tracks or as you call it... "mime". All live musicians, singers, dancers etc... Plus Jackson was singing and dancing his ass off and you rarely heard him out of breath... But you could tell it was all live and undoctored rehearsal performances. A bit of editng from different days but much of it was raw.

Granted the movie was edited and assembled to show things in their best element. But it was 98% about the musician/dancer/artist and the cast of top artists performing.

The whole undertaking was a bit of a long shot.

Can't really say for sure now what that series of concerts would have done for his career had he lived; might well have been nothing more than a blip on the radar screen, even if the concerts ended up being well-performed.

Frankly, by the time he died MJ was more notable as a celebrity train wreck than as a live performer. A has-been in terms of a recording and performing entertainer even as far back as the mid 1990s. I mean, you didn't see a lot of the celebrities rushing to his defense while he was alive that you did after he died. Doubtful anything short of him dying would be able to temporarily obscure the allegations and charges thrown at him.

Even now, less than a year later, some perspective is in order. Outside of the 24/7 media feeding frenzy and a bunch of suckers running out to scoop up cds at slightly increased prices (as if MJ cd production was gonna be suddenly halted, even if he hadn't died) in the months immediately following his death, the furor and chatter has pretty much died down.
