He was just a hired gun in Dio. If he got 25% of songwriter royalties, he should count himself lucky, as writing chord progressions does not automatically mean he is legally entitled to anything. The copywritten part of a song is the melody and lyrics, which in Ronnie's case meant he was entitled to the royalties. If he gave up anything so that Viv could have some of it, Viv has no fucking reason to complain. Chord progressions cannot be copyrighted.

I'm met Vivian (and most of Dio's other guitarists) and while he seems like a nice guy, his silence has been DEAFENING. Dio discovered him. No matter what went down when he left the band, he still OWES HIS CAREER to Ronnie. Conversely, Craig Goldy's statement said "Ronnie Dio is the only reason people know my name." As I recall, around the the time he left Whitesnake and was sniffing for a job (might have been when he joined Leppard), the guy did a boatload of interviews with anyone that would listen, more or less in this vein. Ever wonder why so many people tend dismiss Cambell? By and large, this is the reason. There is a great deal of truth in the idea that when someone speaks poorly of another, you learn more about them than the person they are describing. Naturally, this of course doesn't apply when talking about Van Halen.

Sykes isn't in this round but it's still totally absurd, as they have like six or seven guys in the band attempting to recreate what was originally a three piece.

Out on tour supporting bands like Thin Lizzy and Motorhead around Britain, Vivian caught the eye of bassist Jimmy Bain, who would soon join Ronnie James Dio to record his post-Black Sabbath solo debut for Warner Bros. In searching for a dynamic, powerhouse guitarist, Jimmy recalled his memorable impression of the young unknown Vivian, and recommended him to Ronnie. Vivian was 19 when he auditioned and that line-up went into the studio to record the now classic Dio albums "Holy Diver" and "Last In Line".
