I Gots MUFFUCKING VAN HALEN BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!

    No, lol. No ticket yet.

BUT....I stopped in at FYE today in Nashville....the ONLY MAJOR brick and mortar music/video store left in town, which is closing down. (Side note: Not due to internet competition..the owner of the property is selling the lot to a developer who is gonna build a hotel there).

40% off all new CDs....50% off all used CDS.

Got VH I, VH II, Women & Children First REMASTERS AND AC/DC "Let There Be Rock" DVD, for 32 clams!

Then, I stopped at a used book store on the way home, and found Fair Warning Remaster for 6 bucks.

    FUCK YES!

Yeah I know....I shoulda got them a long time ago....but heck, I have the cassette versions of all of them.

    Life is a never-ending upgrade!

The remasters are lightyears ahead of the other pressings, and most definitely cassette. If you can find a HDCD player and reference speakers, they're even better.

The guys here are trying to find another building to lease. Good store. Not as good as Tower was, but hell, better than anything else left in the retail musical landscape around here....

this FYE was good around '90 to '95, had completely gone to shit before '00. they had to have been getting killed by Best Buy, which is across the street from their side of the mall.

Fuck Best Buy and Walmart and any other "big box" store that sells music. I know, buy your music online and have it on your ipod or whatever. I might be showing my age but I miss buying the record and getting the art and all. Hell, not only did we used to buy our music from a record store we used to get our concert tickets there too! I would go to Eastridge Mall on Saturday morning and the only entrance that was open was the one next to the record store, and I'd go stand in line for my tickets. Get there early enough - you'd get good seats. And back then, the people in the record store used to know some shit and you could ASK them real questions...Now, you get some kid who knows jack-shit about anything. And I HATE those kids!

and i like to go to Best Buy and get the fuck out in five minutes. :D

there is still one decent wrecka stow across from the mall, they used to be in the mall for years, with the same staff for close to 20 years. i tend to not have to ask questions though, so a knowledgeable staff doesn't mean a lot to me. i usually swing by there and check out the used CD bins, and buy new ones there a couple times a year. if Best Buy does quit carrying music i will shop the little store more.

Not only would you buy the record and the concert tickets there, you might get to meet the band there and get an autograph because bands did their signings at record stores. Also you could buy your Zig Zags and hash pipe for the concert there as well.

The smell the art. I was always horrible about not putting the record back in the sleeve and that would end up getting tossed and I would just put the records in the cardboard cover. Then you had the needle get stuck because the record got scratched and when it would skip you would blow enough air on the turntable needle to make it track right. I did a little DJing at a college radio station where they were still spinning vinyl. Running two turntables and fading the one song out and starting a new one took some skill. I can remember they had these record shops in Orange County, California called Licorice Pizza in the 70's.

Zig Zags come free with a bag of weed!! Hell, you could ask the stoners who worked there when YOUR favorite band's next record was coming out and they always knew. We had two record stores in the local mall, Record Bar and Camelot. Shit, I spent too much time and money in both of 'em for them to have went out of business. I know I'm old, but I NEVER got a bad seat for a concert back in the old days. Stood in line, took my chances, and I always got a good seat. Nowadays all the good tix get snatched up by on-line ticket brokers - which is the equivalent of pimps whoring out their women. I said it! They do nothing, create nothing, and they ride the backs of people who want to pay good money for tickets. It's like Gordon Gekko - greed is good. OK, I'm getting down off my nostalgic soap box

Most the shows I went to were general admission and if you wanted to be up close you had to stake out your place in line and you had to run fast. LOL! I can remember the doors opening was like the chutes opening on a horse racetrack and I can remember the mad dash to the stage and feeling the cold steel of the barricade and claiming that spot.

Isn't that how people got killed at the Who concert?

                          Oh dear.

I do believe you're right. But, isn't it kinda like survival of the fittest? Seriously, general admission can cause some unintended consequences..but for the most part, back in the day, it was every man - or woman - for himself!

Yup. It's dangerous. I can remember how it feels to have that big mass of people press on you. It's a crushing machine. It's dangerous but very rock and roll. I remember being at a Van Halen show which the crowd was extra drunk/stoned and crazy and Dave stopped the music and made everyone take three steps back. Most those lead singers know they have the power to save lives because they have control of the audience. Then you have assholes like Axle Rose who cause riots.
