Yeah, i think Dio was removed because Blackmore didn't think they were commercial enough. Blackmore was after some top 40 exposure in America...hence we later got Stone Cold and Street of Dreams. Blackmore got exactly what he wanted done on those records which was try and cross into the mainstream. It wasn't because he didn't know what he was doing or was past his prime. If that were the case, Deep Purple's Perfect Strangers wouldn't have been as killer as it was.

As far as 1982, some cool stuff came out. Let me refresh some short memories here:

And I'm sure I'm forgetting some more.
How's about this little life changing boxed set?

They were so dreamy. Other than that, I wasn't born yet.

Didn't it come out in '81 ? I can't remember exactly. What I rememeber, though, is that SUNPYG is indeed Life Changing. As well as a majority of FZ albums.

Oh, and didn't the Gay City Rollers sing Shang-a-lang, or something ?

If you haven't heard Rainbow Rising you can't really have a qualified opinion on this topic. You have to know the subject matter don't you?

Zappa was an overrated fool. Pretentiousness personified. The only records he ever did that were worth a shit were:

                        Apostrophe
                        Overnight Sensation
                        Roxy And Elsewhere
                        Hot Rats
That live one he did with Captain Beefheart
                        Zappa In New York

And the one he did with Van Vliet was Bongo Fury.

                                Good lord!

I thought I had purged all memory of that horrid piece of shit from my brain.

There were few songs in the 80's that I truly despised. Many that I thought were cheesy or lame or would otherwise not choose to listen to voluntarily, but few that I really hated.

That one probably would take up the top 5 slots on that chart
