I used to LOVE Calvin and Hobbes as a kid but unfortunatley, this comic does explain why hard rock isn't that cool anymore and why so many teenagers began listening to gangsta rap, then boy bands, then more gangsta rap and now weird electronic sounds synchronized to a computerized drum beat.


Sadly the only way for classic rock music to make a full comeback is to make it the most hated genre of music.

Rock 'n' Roll hasn't really gone away - for those most part it was never really played on mainstream radio to a significant degree, and was always more a 'live' form of music (as the ticket sales imply it is now).

The music which is 'mainstream' is not necessarily the music which sells the best, it is the music which is the least challenging and therefore the most disposable. For decades that was cheesy pop (boybands etc). Now it is a watered down form of hip hop. The look change, but the story is the same.......

There is an interview with Alice Cooper that was rather recent where he was slamming all of these new rock groups like Nickelback, Shinedown, and Creed. Saying that these new bands have absolutley no rebellious streak and that all they are doing is pandering to the masses, which is 100,000% true. In Creed's case though, they just suck.

I think that the only way for true rock n' roll to make a comeback is for a young, rebellous kid that plays a guitar to stand up to the music industry and say "fuck you" to the shit music that comes out today. None of these new rock/country bands, even the good ones like Brantley Gilbert's band and Mumford and Sons really are saying that "fuck you". The only band close these days that has had very good success is Black Veil Brides who really remind me of Motley Crue and early Metallica and of course there are TONS and TONS of small new rock bands with a classic sound that are fucking ignored by record labels every day.

Calvin and Hobb's one of the best cartoons to read every day and on Sunday Never missed a day of Calvin! The Snow Men ones were the best his house of Horrors one has topped my all time favorite Bill Watterson was so spot on when came to a kids world! He knew exactly how a kid thinks and put on paper it was truly fun to read !
