the best hero of all was Vigilante. I have the comic where he dies - for good, not like other pansy heroes that die, come back, die again, then come back. He shoots himself on the head in the bathroom of his roach infected apartment after losing it and going on a fucking killing spree. He must've killed half the SWAT force, to boot.
I read this shit when I was 12... the psychological implications of the lifestyle of this hero had a profound effect on me. I realised how easy it is for anyone to just lose it and go completely insane - albeit not doing what he did.
Sometimes, even the slightest, most normal event in the world may trigger something in the back of your mind, caused by daily repressed emotions or an emotional shock of so far back as your childhood... weird, how fragile we truly are. How fragile our minds are.
