    Batman Begins

Saw the new Batman flick today. A definite improvement over Batman Forever and Batman&Robin. Bale did some good work. Holmes was so-so in a role that just about anyone could have played.

My main beef with the movie was whenever the action kicked in, the director chose to utilize this annoying, overused trend in action movies as of late, where the camera jiggles and scenes last about a fraction of a second. There were several points where I literally couldn't tell what was going on in terms physical character actions because the camera shots weren't being sustained long enough. This device seems to be the norm lately. Lot of these filmakers could take a lesson from DePalma, who had long, sustained shots.

Suppose quick jumpcuts help mask some of the CGI stuff, but this same technique is also used when characters are just speaking to one another. It's all good and well, but it shouldn't be to the point where the viewer is confused. I mean, there were several fight scenes in the film where I couldn't tell who was hitting who, and it wasn't because the actors were exhibiting Bruce Lee speed, either.

Anyway, if you are a fan of Batman, think you'll dig the movie.

    Any nude shots of Bale?

I'll be happy just to see him tights

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I think the problems with the action scenes are because director Christpher Nolan has no idea how to direct ACTION scenes.

Granted, he has a good sense on character development etc., but he's not an action director.

Awesome film! Finally someone gets it right! One of the best characters in comic book history and it took 16 years after the first POS movie to finally get it. My wife even liked it.

far and away, the best, truest movie representation of Batman yet. Could've used a little more angle on the character as a "detective", but that's nit-picking. Then again, the presence of Katie Holmes (and her character) was a major annoyance. Always in Hollywood, some asshole has to stand up and shout, "Well, you HAVE to have a love interest."

So if you're interested in the genre, go for it. That being said, I don't think it held a candle to either of the Spidey movies.

Well, well, well....Me thinks Katie Holmes should re-think about marrying freak Tom Cruise -- look what TOM-KAT has done!

                HOLMES DROPPED FROM BATMAN SEQUEL
                -----------------------------------------------

CHRISTIAN BALE, MICHAEL CAINE and MORGAN FREEMAN have signed to star in a second BATMAN movie, but love interest KATIE HOLMES has been dropped.

Movie bosses are thrilled with the response to BATMAN BEGINS - it took $46.9 million (GBP24.6 million) in its first weekend (17-19JUN05) at the US box office - and have snapped up the film's stars for a sequel.

Bale as Batman was the first to put pen to paper, followed by Caine as butler ALFRED and Freeman as BRUCE WAYNE'S business associate LUCIUS FOX.

But Holmes wont reprise her role as district attorney RACHEL DAWES - reportedly because WARNER BROS is angry her engagement to TOM CRUISE has stolen media attention away from the movie.

A source tells PAGESIX.COM, "Everyone is in agreement that the movie's strength is with Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman."

Adding of Holmes, "She won't be in the sequel... the next romantic interest will be a much stronger actress.

"Warner is happy that people are now focusing on who'll be playing the JOKER rather than Katie and Tom."

Cool, I hope they drop the idea of having any love interest.

I think Crispin Glover or Mr. G will be the Joker. Either one are sick bastards and would be a fantastic fit.

                              Yup.

For Batman, that was very good. Warner Bros. are happy with its take. Its five day total was 71 million.
