I actually know a guy who was into Scientology - don't know if he still is or not. The guy's a local orthodontist and loaded. Back in '89 or '90 my girlfriend at the time was working for him when he and his wife joined the Church. He was really into telling all the employees about how great it was and he and his wife actually went to California to go to the big Church. This guy totally bought into it and came back with what he said was a $50,000.00 set of books. Looked like encyclopedias to me. I thought he was exaggerating at the time but the dollar amount always stuck with me. I just googled it and damn if you can't buy a $50,000.00 set of gold embossed books!! This guy is my daughter's orthodontist - I should ask him if I can look at the books the next time I take her in

Nah, he's the best orthodontist around. And a really nice guy. Fucked up in the head apparently, but nice all the same. Hell, he may not even be into it anymore - I have no idea. But I would like to ask him...just to see the look on his face

Seriously? How come? It's not like he's tried to indoctrinate her into the Church or anything - he's just a tooth straightener

I'm not that paranoid either, but those people can get very weird very fast...

Hopefully he left it alone after realizing there was something wrong with the $50,000 picture...

Nope, after he bought the $50,000.00 books he tried to get the ladies in the office to go down to Atlanta for a Scientology seminar. Of course they all freaked out and he didn't force anyone to go. What a dipshit - 50 Gs for a bunch of worthless books...

Um yeah, Elvis and I don't often agree. But dude, you should really take your daughter to another orthodontist!

You should ask him if he got to unlock the essential secrets of Scientology, the one that we're all descendants of an alien race brought here on interstellar airliners?

I'm not worried about him - the treatment room has 5 or 6 chairs in it and it's all in the open. No chance he could try to indoctrinate her - and I'm waayyyy overprotective. I don't trust anybody when it comes to my kid

And I would love to ask him if he's still a practicing nutcase I'd really like to see those books and see what's in 'em.

Maybe you should ask him how an educated man that has made it through medical school--and whose life must be so empty--that he could ever believe such pedestrian, infantile bullshit?
