I will venture to say that even though Windoze in general sucks fucking ass, XP can be tweaked to be much better than it is in it's "default" state.

I almost never have problems with it.

And I have heard that Windows Server 2003 is even more stable, and runs half again faster than XP (I know that is a generalization but what the fuck).

Agreed. It's strange, I make my living because of Microsoft's incompetence but at home I don't have a single machine running Windows natively (I do have numerous vurtual machines running it but, again, that's because I need to stay current for my job). I even have a hacked XBox running Fedora Core 1.
I just keep waiting for the one Linux distibution that can successfully market itself to regular consumers. Corel and Lindows gave it a shot but they just weren't big enough to give Microsoft a run. I keep waiting for Sun to make a move with their Sun Desktop release but I guess it's not in their plans.
Sooner or later I think it will happen but until then I think us Linux desktop users will just have keep laughing behind the backs of the virus and addware infected Windows users.

If there could be an interface that would allow Linux to run ALL Windows apps without fail, I would switch.

So far it is too much hassle (as far as I know).

Running virtual machines is the closest I've found (Windows emulators like WINE don't cut it) but it's hardware intensive and the VM's still don't virtualize good enough hardware to play the newest games. If I ever get bored of playing XBox and Playatation games and decide to start playing on the PC I may have to reconsider my no Windows policy. Until then it's Linux all the way.

PS - Oh, yeah, thanks again to MERRYKISSMAS2U. UBUNTU is now my favorite PC/desktop Linux distribution. It's surprising how spending the last 6 months or so getting my MCSE put me out-of-touch with the Linux world.

Thank you for trying ubuntu! I love spreading that kinda stuff. If you go to shipit.ubuntu.com, you can order free ubuntu cd's WITH NO S AND H!

I dont really want for Linux to become huge on the Desktop. I would like it if Windows crumbled, and I would be happy using a mac because of it's BSD roots.

Why would a G4 come with Windoze?

What is it that you do in Windows that you can't do in Linux?

About the only thing I keep Windows going for at this point is making DVD's, as Linux isn't there yet. But you couldn't burn audio CD's on Linux 2 years ago without being a command line geek, yet now with K3B you can burn the music as easy as Nero on a Windows. So I know that the DVD authoring is coming.....

Other than that, maybe games could be an issue? I don't keep a lot of games on the PC so I can't speak to the accuracy of something like Cedega (which is like Wine, except it's specifically for running Windows games under Linux)

Installed Ubuntu 5-10 last night, and it's working great. This might become my favorite Debian-based distro yet.
