I spent a lot of time in Hong Kong growing up. Chinese medicine is like all other medicine. Some of it works and some of it doesn't. Even modern medicine that we all grew up trusting is proving to be full of scams. Especially the pharmacutical industry. Acid reflux medicine like Nexium have bigger marketing budgets than Budwiser or Coca Cola. What most doctors won't tell you is a change in your diet and eating less will usually cure the acid reflux without medication.
I'm not saying you have acid reflux but it certainly is a good example of why it's buyer beware in the medical market.
As far as Chinese medicine goes, I've learned by experience that a good share of it really does work. They take accupuncture seriousely. I tried to buy some accupunture needles in Kowloon and they wouldn't sell them to me because I did not have the propper credentials. It's worth a try.
Like all things, try and educate yourself enough to make smart consumer decisions. Internet chat rooms can be a great source of info or complete BS. I guess that's the information flood in general. Mining the trinkets of useful info in the the pile of crap.
Just remember some natural medicine does work, some modern medicine works, but the majority in both realms are looking to get rich and want your money. I think it's good to have a little distrust because in the end, it you that has to decide weather it's working or not.
