My child support payments have officially ended this week

I can't be the only one that believes you don't get married to have someone to take care of you financially. I can't be the only one that believes the system's fucked in how they figure child support based on income. I can't be the only one that believes all costs for raising a child should be split evenly between the mother and father.

Well...it's a catch 22...the courts have to be this way because of all the men who don't pay child support...but a lot of the men don't pay because they feel the amount is unfair and they know that it's not going for the kid...no simple solution...I think it should be figured on an individual basis.

Yeah, but if I'm only making 30grand and he's making 80grand -- you can barely pay the bills here on 30grand, nevermind having to keep my child(ren) clothed, fed, and equipped for school.

I am on the belief that it needs to be proved where the money is going. Too many people do take advantage and try to get revenge through this. It should be about the child(ren)

The courts do not have to be this way.
The majority of men do pay...and want to be a part of their childrens lives.
You become no more than a wallet and a pain in the ass because you believe your children deserve a father.

Your analogy is a good way to decide support....you take the 80 subtract 30 and you pay support on a $50,000 income. In some cases that is how it is done. My ex quit a good paying job to ensure higher monthly payments...throw in child tax credit, claiming the kids as dependants with my tax free support and she is sitting pretty good...so there are ways around it too...she is doing nothing to build a secure future though which seems short sighted.

I find it hard to believe that can not be done...I asked my lawyer and was told that will never happen...that was back in 99.
My girls live with me half the month and I know what I put out in support is more than it costs me as far as clothing and food/activites /school cost.

I agree, there should be accountability for these funds, just like the payee reports for social security benefits.

I had to fill out an annual report detailing where the funds were spent and i had to have reciepts to verify what i reported in case they audited me.

I have boxes and boxes full of reciepts, i don't spend a dime without getting a reciept.

Whatever funds that could not be accounted for needed to be paid back. but it was never a problem for me because i spent above and beyond those amounts taking care of both my wife and my child.

I was audited the first year, and since i kept such good records they haven't bothered me since.

A similar system should be set up for child support if one doesn't exist now.
Years ago i lived with a woman who was collecting child support and she never spent those funds on the kid.
The grand parents bought the kids clothes and paid school fee's.

It was one of the reasons i dumped her, she was on the border line of neglecting the kid.
And i went by there one night after i moved out and found out the 9 year old was home alone while that bitch was down at the corner bar.
I stayed there until the cops came and they filed the report with child services.

I understand there are dead beat Dad's out there, but the system is set up to punish all Dad's as if they were dead beats, and that isn't fair.

Also, there is a double standard because they don't sock it to the mother's who have to pay the way they do the fathers because of this percieved idea that the Dad's always make more money, so they don't award father's as much support.

The system needs to be overhauled, and those who do not pay need to go to jail, period.

The funny thing is, she is currently divorcing her husband because he has stolen money from her and has a serious gambling problem...no lie. So she is worried she will lose her house not having my support coming in anymore and as I posted earlier none of my support would go to help pay for my kids college etc...(though I'd rather pride myself doing it on my own) The gambling is probably where most of the past support went but who knows
