Holy Hogwarts! It’s Harry Potter [website] naked!
Seventeen-year-old British actor Daniel Radcliffe, best known as the lovable boy wizard in the series of Harry Potter movies, is baring all on the London stage in a revival of Peter Shaffer’s controversial play “Equus.”
And the newly ripped Radcliffe, who plays troubled stable hand Alan Strang in the play about a young man’s troubling fascination with horses, has a nude sex scene on stage with co-star, Joanna Christie!
Radcliffe took the stage role between shooting the fifth and sixth installment of the Potter films which are based on J.K. Rowlings’ series of mega-bestsellers about the adventures of a boy wizard.
ButRadcliffe’s starkers stage strut has left some of the legions of Harry fans feeling a bit wonky.
“We as parents feel Daniel should not appear nude,” one mom posted on a Potter web site, reports Thisislondon.com. “Our 9-year-old son looks up to him as a role model. We are very disappointed and will avoid the future movies he makes.”
Another concerned adult questioned “why (Radcliffe’s) parents said this was OK.”
The play’s producer, David Pugh countered that the play is required reading in school while Radcliffe’s spokeswoman, Vanessa Davies, claims her client “has tremendous support from Harry Potter fans.”
“Daniel does not want to step away from Harry Potter,” Davies added, “but he does want to show he is a rounded actor capable of very different and diverse roles.”
Even if Radcliffe has stranded a few in his fan base, Pugh insists audience members will be awestruck by the teen’s acting abilities.
“Peter (Shaffer) and I were watching the workshop production, and you couldn’t take your eyes off Daniel,” he told People magazine. In fact Pugh said it was the young actor’s stage presence that convinced Shaffer to let Pugh revive the Tony Award-winning Broadway play.
And of course, Radcliffe’s beefed-up bod turned a few heads as well!
“To have a six-pack like that at that age, when some people try for 25 years to get one . . . we were gobsmacked,” Pugh gushed.
