I thought the Departed fucking sucked. Talk about cliche. One after another plus it is so overated, overhyped and overblown much like DiCaprio in general. Marty hasn't done a good movie since Casino in my opinion. But hey, someone said it above, can't please everyone.

Brick is a fantastic movie. What an underated movie. I fucking love that movie. Casino Royale was fun and I liked it too. Those two are best new movies I saw in 2006.

You know, I really didn't think the Departed was all that great.

It was a fairly average police thriller that had the advantage of A-list casting, so the performances were solid, but the story really wasn't anything much better than a Law and Order show.

I wouldn't say it was a bad movie by any means, but not exactly the best Scorsese has ever done...

This movie rocked! It made me laugh out loud several times, made me go 'Holy Shit!' a few times & has sooo many classic lines & scenes. Just a great movie.
Favorite line: Wahlberg during the briefing: 'Maybe...Maybe not...Maybe Fuck Yourself.
And then when Baldwin sez: 'He's really a nice guy...'

I really like when Dicaprio & Damon are on the roof at the end & Dicaprio is repeatedly punching him in the gut saying 'Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you' with each punch.
I mean, there was just tons of bad-ass scenes in this flick. The acting is top-notch & I thought the ending was good as well.

Finally caught it. It was good. But the ending was too open ended. I expected to hear Layla in background. Instead we get comfortably numb. I liked the rat on the window sill, though. The movie should have been named "Rat".

Yeah, and I didn't get Nicholson's character either...was he supposed to be Irish? You would think with a name like Costello. They should have cast someone else instead.

            Give it an 8.

              More thoughts on casting....

Nicholson was all wrong for the part. Dennis Hopper would have made a better "mick" Costello.

Switch Dickaprio with Damon's parts. Damon's already played a southie.

Dump Sheen and replace with either Donald Sutherland or James Cromwell.

This is just my take. I ain't no Scorcese...

Aw Fuck it, who am I kidding! Just give me the fucking Oscar. :D

No offense to the others who enjoyed this movie, but I thought it sucked. The best part was watching the pretty boys, Decaprio and Damon getting capped. It was really difficult watching these teen beat magazine puss boys trying to be tough guys.

well with dicaprio i can see that, but the guy who was in the bourne movies and rounders? i think he's pretty badass...but yeah even though they might have an image of being a poppy fluff actor such as dicaprio, i think they're both great actors. wahlberg is also great, i thought he was pretty sweet in the italian job

                    The movie was spectacular...

the fact that it was open ended was what made it fantastic...

Leave it to a Van Halen crowd to want a clear ending...
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."

Yeah, again no offense Pete, I was raised on John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Bruce Lee, Sly Stallone, Arnold and Glenn Ford. Yeah some of these actors were way before my time, but my dad was always watching their movies and I got hooked on them. Dicaprio doesn't hold a candle to any of the above listed. Maybe I need to get up with the times, but I really have trouble accepting these new actors. I do like Wahlberg though, but then again he was also a candy ass underroos saleman and a punk ass rapper before he came into his own.

                          I thought it was a great movie but I don't think it's in Scorcese's top 5.

I heard they were planning a sequel. Is that true? Doesn't make much sense to me since nearly all the characters died as fara as I remember.

I agree that Donald Sutherland would have been better than Sheen in that part but it is kind pf nit picking...

                          Cheers!

Depends what you are looking for.

The people you mention were hero's but not on the whole the best actors.

Arnie is a good actor? Gimme a fucking break!

Was Bruce Lee even an actor?

Stallone was decent in Copland and in Rocky 1 until we realised he wasn't acting.

I'll give you that Matt Damon and DiCaprio don't have the same charisma as some of the people you mention but you seem to like comic book heroes rather than actors.

As you get older you'll probably start to appreciate less one dimensional stuff.

                            Cheers!

Wrong again, Muppet lover. Yes some of the above mentioned were not the greatest thespians but their screen presence as tough guys worked. As far as my taste in film, I thought I made it clear that I preferred classics with the likes of Glenn Ford and John Wayne. I am also a huge fan of the Japanese samurai films such as Yojimbo, Zatoichi and The 7 Samurai. Again these movies were made in the late fifties and sixties and for some reason movies made back then were just better than movies being created today. Just my opinion.
