"No, dude --- I'm going to RUIN you!"
It really is that drastic a difference, though...and I'll be damned if I don't want a new TV or 2...like NOW....
Yes...with the proper equipment there is a drastic difference.

If someone tells ya they can not hear or see the difference they are either cheap, blind or deaf.

Or all of the above. I imagine it similar to needing glasses and not knowing it until you put a pair on....y'know?
It was like "OK, now regular TV looks blurry and crappy".

having 5.1 or 7.1 is what makes the experience of watching a movie on a bigscreen hdtv enjoyable, you are missing a large part.

its pretty cool watching nascar races in 7.1 on a hd broadcast you can watch a car go round the track and the speaker positions change as the cars pass diiferent places on the track.

theres nothing like watching a movie and feeling car crashes or gunshots, bombs blowing up.

not to mention watching music DVDs, if you have seen how the west was won by zepplin, you should hear it a eardrum crushing levels in 7.1, it would blow your mind. complete different sound than in 2.1 or 3.1.

AC/DCs family jewels also kicks ass, i love cranking that dvd.

Yeah...Once I subbed to HD I started to really notice some of the non HD channels had alot poorer quality than other ones...something I had not really picked up on previously....and I had watched them for years.

its not that expensive, buy off manufacterers sites on ebay, you can get last years models at fractions of the cost, for instance i got a harman kardon avr reciever that retailed for 2100.00 for 530 dollars shipped, all warranties everything.
i got all my speakers cheap, i got a pair of jbl mains that retailed for 1000.00 for 114 dollars shipped.
              no shit.
