The National Rifle Association is America’s longest-standing civil rights organization. Together with our more than five million members, we’re proud defenders of history’s patriots and diligent protectors of the Second Amendment.
I could paste links about his acting achievements, perhaps his political views bother some people, but what you do not understand is he wasn't political he was for the rights of the individual be that freedom or the right to defend oneself.
If you think that is political you are the problem.

R.I.P.
Actually, while it wasn't nearly as publicized as a similar statement from Poppy Bush was, Heston eventually resigned his NRA membership, because he thought (correctly so) that the organization had become far too militant and was the tool of weapons manufacturers, as opposed to gun owners.
Appearing at the gun nut rally in Colorado a few days after Columbine though, that was still fucking weak.
Turned out to be his last movie. Not a good one to go out on........

Well, it's good to know that he had some sense left in his old age...
Originally posted by binnie Can't say I agree with a lot of his views, but a true movie great. A biography of Chuck would undoubtedly be a great, great read....
Heston wrote his own autobiography 'In The Arena'. It's a great read from what I can recall (as read it in my teens - being a fan of his classics). Cecille B. DeMille ended up casting Heston as the circus owner in 'The Greatest Show On Earth' all because he waved to the director when he was leaving a movie set.
RIP, Chuck. You truly made some great timeless movies - which did make you larger than life.
The National Rifle Association used to be a national gun club that sponsored tournaments and promoted gun safety. Ulesess S. Grant founded it. It used to be a good organization but now it's just a bunch of money grubbing lawyers and special interest whores. The NRA used to sponsor decent places to shoot, tournaments, gun safety classes. We actually got a whole week of hunter saftey training when I was in junior high. The instructor reminded me of the drill sargent from Full Metal Jacket. Lot's of fims showing what gun accidents do to people. I still have that shit drilled into my brain and never have had a gun accident. It was a good thing. That was the old NRA.
