This is long, so bare with me.
Well, let’s consider the source. No, not me… Ace!
I went to see KISS in Austin, Texas during the reunion tour, and I was lucky enough to be sitting 4th row, right in front of Ace. All through the show me and my brother was singing at the top of our lungs, and Ace was noticing us and kept giving us the “thumbs up” sign. When Paul announced that they were going to give the mic over to Ace, everybody including me thought is was going to be “Shock Me,” but once I heard that slide from G to A, I knew it was “2000 Man,” which happens to be my favorite song from him. While most people where looking around asking others what’s that song they’re playing, me and my brother was singing right along with him, and I felt he was looking right at us to see if we knew the words. 3 times during that song his gave us the ‘thumbs up” sign, and after the song was over, he threw two picks at us. My brother caught his, and the one he threw at me fell to the floor and some other person got it. When they came back for their encore, a roadie came towards us in the front barricade and gave us two back stage passes. After the show was over we didn’t know what to do since this was our first time during something like this. We didn’t see the roadie that gave us the passes, so we just ask a security guard in-between the stage and the barricade what do we needed to do, and he took us to another guard and he took us backstage. When we went backstage I thought it was going to be this huuuuge party with all the debauchery that I thought went on backstage. We were in a room with about 15 people no bigger than my living room, with some finger food, a keg and some other refreshments. After about 45 minutes, only Ace walks in the room and he thanked everyone. A few things I noticed right away is that he seemed very shy, soft spoken and he had the weirdest way of talking. He asked us if we wanted an autograph to line up and he would give us one. I had no idea what to say when I got there, he was actually spending about a minute talking to each person. So when it was my turn I thanked him for letting us come back stage and my mind just drew a blank, I didn’t know what else to say. A question came to mind… Since I was playing bass in a cover band at that time and the only song they let me sing was “Deuce” because I have a very deep voice, I wanted to know what the heck Gene was saying in that first line. I said please forgive me if this is a stupid question and I know that you didn’t write it, but what does Gene say in the very first line in “Deuce?” Is it “grandma out of here?” He laughed and said that was not a stupid question, because Gene has had people ask him that same question over the years. He told me it was not “grandma” it was “grime.” I told him a lot of my friends, including myself didn’t know that, and he told me “yea, and a lot of people don’t know that Deuce is about the devil, and Gene didn’t write that song.” When he told that, I didn’t know what to say, because that came out of left field. I shook his hand and thanked him again, and we left. On the long ride home me and my brother was talking about him and what he said, my brother told me that he though he was only messing around and we blew it off. Last year my friend bought a DVD called “They sold their souls for rock and roll.” He let me borrow it and in a segment they had Gene talking about how he gives his body up and becomes another person when he writes songs, and he also said some other strange things. But that did make me think about what Ace had said. So I opened the dictionary and looked up “Deuce” and low and behold one of the definitions IS the “DEVIL.” I don’t know about all this, but it IS a little weird though. Ace didn’t seem stoned, drunk or anything when he said that. He just had the weirdest way about him. Maybe it was his accent, or something.
Hey guys, can anybody who’s been back stage tell me if there’s ANOTHER room where people party and girls are naked like I’ve always heard about what goes on back stage? Because it was cool, but nothing like I thought. That was the first and only time.Comment

I'm truly surprised that at this late date, someone hasn't crafted one of those websites in the vein of the "Chuck Norris Is So Tough" types in testament to Gene Simmon's greed. The potential for a list of one-liners about the guy (including his unmatchable ego), is simply unlimited.
