It is actually common for ethnic minorities to make up a disproportionate percentage of the prison population. Some say that is due to 'racisim' in the police/judicial system. More likely, however, is that they are from poorer areas - more poverty = more crime.

These things are usually environmental and cultural: minorities are not someone genetically predisposed to bad behaviour and criminal activity.

Of course there is, yet my perspective is addressing only what I cope with nearly everyday at work. You see, constantly coming into contact with the general public is highly revealing of the basic tendencies of human nature, and while I can count on the fingers of one hand the amount of white customers that have acted questionably where I work since the beginning of the year, I could just as easily lose count the number of incidents involving the folks I was initially referring to in the same time period. And to be honest, I remember the white nitwits because they do stand out by comparison, as they are an aberration, and not the norm.

It's interesting though isn't it: I worked in a record store for 7 years and almost every asshole was white, very middle/upper middle class, and middle aged. I suppose the stereotypical 'difficult' custom would be teenaged, or poor. Never the case in my experience. I never noticed a particular 'ethnic' pressence in misbehaviour, however.

That IS interesting.. but what state was that in? How long ago was it? Dealing with a middle/upper class white guy who's being a dick is a far cry from dealing with those we're discussing here... You probably never feared for your life in that record shop... like I do at say, the Walgreens that's at the entrance of my condo development:

That IS interesting.. but what state was that in? How long ago was it? Dealing with a middle/upper class white guy who's being a dick is a far cry from dealing with those we're discussing here... It was in the UK, and only around 5 years ago.

No, I never feared for my life. But then again guns are not readily available here, which drastically reduces the chance of death :D

To reiterate what VAiN and I have both been saying, you really have to see it to believe it. Look, when dealing with the public, you tend to bend over backward for the customer because you want to keep their business, particularly in times such as these. It does me no favors by treating someone any differently because of the color of their skin, as the only important color is green. Having said that, there are some people that even though I'd prefer they took their business elsewhere, financial matters make the thought completely impractical. And to a degree, I believe many of these jerks are aware of this and behave so poorly merely because they can do so. Who needs the grief? No one, but it would be fiscally suicidal to turn them away. It's a classic Catch 22 situation, where you are pretty much fucked either way.

Apart from thew ethnic views I believe this type of behavior can cross over into any cultural and racial populace. With talk of food shortages and food prices jumping by 20% "experts" say (whomever the experts are) the civilization here in America is seven meals away from rioting in the street. It could easily happen.
