          Did ya think the executioner was going to lift him up and ask him to dance?

          First thing I thought was, "Oh no he is lifting his spirits, giving the guy adrenalin and getting the executioner out of the moment."

          Jeepers,when a executioner has a moment of conscious, you sure do not want to have that person to think of anything else other than that twinge of conscious!
