I always thought that song sounded more like mid-80's KISS than Van Hagar. I could actually picture Stanley Eisen singing it while checking out the dick of the guy next to him in the men's room.
Apparently Bruce Kulick played guitar on it, which would explain the KISS factor.
Kulick and Bolton were in a short-lived band called Black Jack, which wasn't completely terrible. The thing is, it served as the testing grounds for Bolton while he perfected his overblown foghorn singing style.

They took the riff from Stompin 8H , sucked the great out of it, and made dirty water dog, where it sounds like Ed's kicked over a beer bottle in the beginning.
