DO NOT ----- I repeat DO NOT ----- buy an Onkyo AV receiver!

I bought the Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver 3 yrs. ago and 3 out of 4 HDMI inputs are DEAD and I cant access the setup menu which means I cant tweak my surround sound settings. This $400 unit is a PIECE OF DOG SHIT. Don't say I didnt warn you.

I'd go with Denon or Yamaha --- perhaps a Marantz if you have deep pockets. I'm buying a Pioneer receiver because they're so feature-rich and have a shitload of surround settings.

Um, I'm pretty sure Marantz is actually Onkyo's flagship line IIRC...

What I find is the model is sometimes more important than the brand name. I think all companies make some shit. Having worked in high tech manufacturing there is always the component that goes bad in a particular batch. Delayed ESD damage was always a problem. A reputable chip manufacture will run a higher voltage through the board to induce failure. It means throwing away some product but it assures what goes out is more reliable. I'm sure this is why so many Chinese electrical devices just quit. I mean it's all microprocessors now and unless the quality control is there, you are going to have complete failures out of the blue. With so much being made in China and components coming from all over it is hard to stay on top of the quality control.

I don't like to be the first to buy any product. I like to wait and see how it performs after people have used it for awhile and then read the reviews. All you can do is see what other people have had to say. But you do want to pay attention to the particular model number instead of just assuming a brand name across the board is good.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

But I guess that's something that's across the board rather than exclusive to Onkyo...
That's my trick for adding depth and color to digital music is just running it through a tube amp. I have yet to hear any digital modeling that does it better.

Guys, I tired to not go beserk and buy high end stuff... but that is what ended up happening.
Anyone that knows me and has seen my guitar gear setup knows that I tend to go overboard at times!

I ended up going with this setup.

Harman Kardon AVR 2650 7.1 AV Receiver (Black )
Klipsch RF-82 II Floorstanding Speaker (black-pair)
Klipsch RS-52II Surround Speaker (pair) (Black )
              Klipsch RC-62II Center Speaker (black-each)
              Sub- Klipsch RW-12D R

Also I ended up not getting the UND7000. I found a better deal on a Samsung UN55D8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV (Silver), so I got it instead.

              Price: mucho $$

can't wait to get it hooked up~

                        Great receiver...

My Onkyo system is outstanding...haven't had one issue since I purchased it.

Would rather have your setup though...

I went easy...didn't feel like piecing it all together...
