My memory fails me. What is the correct sequence for doing shots of tequila? Oh I know some will say lime, but it was always lemon for us. I have a lemon and some tequila and it's definitely time to use them up.
Tequila, lemon and salt

Then of course, there's the Chevy Chase-method...
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

Lick the back of your hand a little to wet it. Put some salt on that spot and it sticks.
Lick salt
Drink shot of tequila
suck slice of lime
rinse - repeat
and Jim Beam is better anyways.“Great losses often bring only a numb shock. To truly plunge a victim into misery, you must overwhelm him with many small sufferings.”Comment

We used to do this and sadaist described the method but eventually one day you admit to yourself it's just not very nice.
I can't speak to very good stuff but I found it better with a mixer and ice than the salt and lime thing and in fact it's just not one of the better spirits.
All you could say for the ritual really is that if there was a group of you it got things kicked off but any time I looked around say a table of 12 people, you would have 10 pulling faces and 2 at best tolerating it.
Still if it's all you have in the house. Personally I would go buy a bottle of coke and some ice and do it that way, still stick the lime in.Comment

I'm more of a mezcal drinker. A lick of spiced salt, a bite of lime and slam her down. In a few shots you will see God. The best drunk I ever had in my life is when I crawled into a bottle of Oaxaca rot gut in Mazatlan. I think I time traveled on that trip.

They say that a really "good" tequila is smooth and doesn't taste bad at all. Well, I've bought expensive tequila and I've bough cheap tequila. And I never met an alcohol I didn't like - except for tequila. And I like the hard stuff, just not tequila. But for some reason lots of people I know say they love tequila. Funny thing is I never see any of them drinking it, unless it's in a margarita.American by birth. Southern by the grace of God.

The cheap tequila is white rum with some real tequila added for flavor. The more expensive kind is uncut. Again, I like the raw smokey mezcal. That's a man's drink. It's not for tuty fruity margaritas. It's to be slammed straight up. What you are going for is the drunk and next to absinthe it's a fun way to get there and the drunk is magical. Almost like you smoked some pot with it.No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment
