I think part of the appeal of Top Gear came from the fact that it was the BBC which meant that they could say a car was shit without worrying about losing advertising.

Yeah that was always great and it just was low budget and quirky. But the three hosts were great. You just can't replace that kind of chemistry. The snarky Jeremy Clarkson. The nerdy James May. The colorless and flavorless guy I can't remember his name but he just worked in the roll. The best shows were when they bought some clunkers and went on an adventure with them.

It will be as good as American Top Gear which sucked warthog nuts. People here watched Top Gear because it was British. It was entertaining because it was different. The hosts and the cars. People like variety. They don't want to eat a Big Mac in Paris. Also you just don't remake shows that were hugely popular when they originally ran. It will alway be a failure. People want new stuff that's good. Where are the creative thinkers and writers? Maybe those people exist. Maybe the system won't let the creative juice flow.

Hell, even the current British "Top Gear" is a pale imitation. The REAL Top Gear now airs on Amazon under the name "The Grand Tour". If they stick to the same schedule they did last year, they'll probably drop a new season really soon here... just in time for the holiday season when most TV is either reruns or horrible Xmas "specials"
