George Carlin made some interesting comments on both CNN (where an obviously offended Anderson Cooper dressed him down) and on a NPR interview.

I am heavily paraphrasing but Carlin basically said that:

I don't vote...Never...Out of principle...Not even if Nader supporters asked me and my vote would put him over the top for the presidency. I don't vote out of principle. Because I believe that every four years the power elites in this country allow us to feel like we are making changes or maintaining what is working. Every four years they allow us to rearrange the deck furniture on the Titanic. That's all elections are in this country.

Very dark, pessimistic thoughts indeed. I don't know whether I agree or not. I know I want to disagree. But Carlin's a fucking genius!

That's exactly what I think of your partisan/bipartisan bullshit at the moment.

I have no party. I'm a LIBERTARIAN. It took me a while, but I'm far more to the right than you are for sure so don't give me shit about being a Commie.

This country is floating upside down at the top of the fish bowl.

Even Carville and Begala last night said the Dems need to start looking inward at their problems rather than blaming everyone else. It was amazing, it's the first time I've heard that sentiment out of a Democrat since they lost both Houses in '94. And it's something I've been saying around here for quite some time. Maybe the leaders of your party will get it this time. Maybe not. But face it, weak on defense yet strong on Communism isn't a winning platform with the American public.
I'm not denying anything. If you think Bush and his arrogent, incompetent Pentagon crew are "strong" on defense, you are delusional based on the Iraq question alone.

Agreed. I wish I could be as much of a pessimist as Carlin at times so I could enjoy this more. But, I had a shred of hope left in me that this would be the lowest voter turnout of all time. As of now, I give up.

I've actually read his entire political spiel before. You can probably Google it up if you actually care to waste your time on such drivel. He's an idiot. Anyone that doesn't exercise their political right to vote and makes such sweep statements is a nincompoop. I don't care what your polital beliefs are...Right...Left...just vote. His statement is a copout of the first magnitude.

Carlin went on to say that basically American voters are "intellectually uninvolved in the process," and that they "get what they deserve." Sadly, I see very little intellectual engagemant regarding this election.

He's basically saying "Let's have Poll Tests to test voter Knowledge!"

                Good Idea!

Actually, I think he was saying read things very carefully, avoid partisan political spin and reciting it (as you do so well), and avoid the dead-end, intellectual wasteland of of using simplistic terms like "commie" and "flipflop." You wouldn't know the difference between a communist, anarchist, socialist, or a neo-fascist. Have you even read the "Communist Manifesto"?

                    Heh heh heh...

Pinky, that was pretty funny. You paraphrased me pretty well (or at least how you guys hear me).

Oh well, maybe you'll take the lesson for what it is, maybe you won't. I'm kinda hoping you don't, as it'll mean majority status for Conservatives for a generation.

It's been awhile, but I have. I don't have a copy on my nightstand like you do, I'll bet.
