another question: is the direct goal of all these tapes to be broadcast on Arab TV? The pre-election Bin Laden video obviously was, but are they all for that purpose?

pretty much. every video and audio tape we see or hear in the west is taken from al jeezra. al queda gives everything to them then they show it. hell al jeezra interview obl in oct 01. they know where he is and how to get to him

So Zawahiri audio tapes, even the ones that are clearly boastful and meant for Western broadcast are noticably better quality than Osama tapes?

If so, this is telling. If you can conjur up plastic explosives and people willing to blow themselves up with it, you should be able to score a decent tape deck and mic.

thats what i say about the obl audio tapes. the quality is absolute crap but everyone else that releases an audio one it's like a soundboard recording. his audio tapes are like he was whispering into a ree to reel tape in the middle of woodstock while metallica was playing. so much background noise it's not funny. like i said they could send someone to radio shack and get one of those micro cassette recorders and do it but they haven't done that for obl.

I've been amazed lately about the insights that go unreported. The huge headline for:

"hey assholes, bin laden's tapes are the only shitty sounding ones, and he's the only one who might be dead"

Just doesn't zip like:

"Scott Peterson still may never be executed"

this is an actual newsheadline @ yahoo right now. NO SHIT ASSHOLES! But morons will think it's news.

there has been a little about the quality of the tape. it's one of the reasons why you'll never see the cia say oh thats his voice on the tape. 100% it's him all they say it probably him. maybe its him but we're not sure. but for al zawhari and zarquawi they get a "it's him" or even if the tape is just partial they be easily identified and made public on who's on the tape.
