As for Franken's quote, I think - in this case - he's made a sweeping generalisation. Both sides have their sheep, both sides have their skeptics. The more extreme on each side get more and more sheep-like for their "team", and more and more hateful for anything that comes out of the other sides mouths.

I'm guilty of this too. During the build-up to the Iraq Invasion (oops, I mean "OPERATION: IRAQI FREEDOM"), anything and everything out of Bush's mouth I was thinking and shouting, "Liar! What is he talking about? Idiot!" And seconds later I've changed the channel and there's Tony Blair saying just about the same exact thing, and I'm going, "Would you listen to the man?
