    Another Record-Breaking Deficit Looms

" I will send you a budget that funds the war, protects the homeland, and meets important domestic needs, while limiting the growth in discretionary spending to less than 4%....By doing so,we can cut the deficit in half over the next 5 years." - George W. Bush, State Of The Union Address, Jan. 20, 2004.

The Bush administration predicts that the federal budget deficit will reach 427 billion dollars this fiscal year, setting yet another record. Why did Dubya say that he could cut the deficit in half despite the fact that we were (and are) at war? Because it sounded good, that's why.At least, that's the only reason I could come up with. http://www.indystar.com/articles/9/212430-1749-010.html

My dear Americans, enjoy paying interest to us Europeans and them Asians for ever and eternity!

I´ll enjoy retiring at 60 after a hard life of working 35 hours a day while you and your ancestors work 48 hours a day paying off the debt!

Thank you for voting for Bush!:D

Wow! It such a great thing to have a big-spending old fashioned LIBERAL War President from Texass in the White House!

Conservatives indeed! How does it feel to have become the party of POWER, PORK, and PRIVILEGE? That's what you get for letting Neo Con shitbag traitors running things!

It's a good thing the Republicans control the ENTIRE GOV'T now! lol

        Don't Worry,Dubya Has A Plan

Dubya has renewed his pledge to halve the deficit, and will submit his "plan" on February 7th.Says Bush,in his usual well-spoken manner: "We have presented a plan in the past and we will present one here next -- later on this ---in February, that will show --- it will cut the deficit in half."
"It's going to require cooperation with the Congress to make difficult decisions when it comes to funding the budgets. We look forward to working to hold the line with the United States Congress on spending. And as I say,I'll promote a package that will show the budget being cut in half over the next five years."
Is it just me ,or is this administration starting to seem almost surreal?

I wouldn't laugh too hard Angel...once that healthcare system crumbles...you'll be working 48 hours a day.

My Germanic friend, who loves to ignore reality, seems to forget his fortunes are directly tied into to that of all European Union members, as well as the global economy.

The truly sad thing about this story is that a majority of Americans still believe that Republicans are fiscal conservatives who hate big government. Those days are long gone. Republicans are just much, much better at "spin" and selling their distorted message than the Dems are.

Again, I advocate spending bill reform. What's on the bill is what's voted on, not what's added on the bill to get the pass vote on the original bill.

That's about as non-partisan as I can be. Who knows EXACTLY what is being funded here and what is riding on the coattails. I'd love to know myself.

Yeah, that's a great idea that's long past it's due, but who would even propose it, let along vote for it?

By the people, for the people yo....protesters want to do grassroots campaigning, THAT is the issue...make it so unpopular to be against it (which is easy, as what citizen would be against that idea), and they have to support it. Make an amendment for it, then it's done.

True dat'. I am a Republican (a Rockefeller "Liberal" Republican) and recognized the "smaller government" phoney mantra that was undercut when funded with bigger deficits and what a bunch of horseshit it was long ago.

You're no Republican. You're a liberal Democrat in the truest sense of the word. Stand up and be counted for what you are, Nick. Be proud of what you are.

I happen to be in medical administration. I work for the licensing and regulatory body for physicians & surgeons in the province. Our healthcare system needs changes, definitely, but it is NOT in the crisis that some would leave you to believe.

That said, you are right. The sinking US economy is NOT a laughing matter! The entire world's economy is linked to the US & the US dollar. If (out of optimism, I won't say when) the crash occurs, the entire world economy will be pulled down with it. Very scary indeed.
