I think everyone is entitled to a warning at least. I've been lucky like that a few times...twice while i was drunk and they knew it.

Never had a DUI but i paid the expenses for one when my wife got nailed. You don't want to go there if you like your savings account.

Gah, I recall the first time I ever got pulled over. I had just gotten a car and didn't know that I didn't have a registration tag. All the DMV had mailed me were my plates, no registration sticker.

So the cop pulls me over and asks me, and I point to my inspection sticker, and he explains to me the difference, so I tell him that my car is new and that I had just got my plates, blah blah blah. He was cool about it.

He goes back to his car and does his thing and comes back and says, "Sir, step out of the car." and I'm like, "um..."

Anyway, the fucker says to me, "Sir, we have this vehicle reported stolen in Dallas."

I'm completely thinking that I'm fucked, and that there's no way this dude is going to believe me if I even try to protest.

Luckily, before I could say anything, he starts laughing and tells me that he's just fucking with me.

I laughed uneasily, asked if I could go, and got the hell out of there.

Fucker.

Dr. Love, Dude that story is just crazy. You know if you were an unstable sort and weren't who he thought you were, he could have been asking for trouble.
That cop wasn't very bright to be pulling a stunt like that.

Unfortunately, some cops aren't too smart. I had one yell at me to "get your butt back here NOW" after I parked and walked away from my truck. "Can't you see that sign?", he says, pointing to the handicapped sign. I guess he figure someone in their 30's like myself couldn't possibly qualify for such a spot. I simply pointed to the placard hanging from my rear view mirror and said, "Can't you see that placard?" He turned around and walked away without saying another word. I rarely use my placard, but occasionally do when my peripheral neuropathy is raging out of control.

Shit, I copped to the DUI, and got (this was in 1982, remember):

- $300 fine, plus court costs(!)

- 24 hours of community service

- 4 fucking AA meetings

- Driver rehab school (where they show you all of the neat pics of DWI fatalities :D )

- SIX fucking points on my license

- and ONE YEAR of SUPER-FUCKING-VISED probation.


My asshole is still bleeding 22 years later. All because me and a bud closed down a couple of bars that night.
