Chimp was losing support in every single subculture of conservatism even before November. Several high profile conservative magazines and news papers had either endorsed Kerry or refused to endorse anyone when a Chimp slam dunk would have been their expected response.
The numbers for a Chimp win simply do not add up. Even though it was no great margin - only 50.8% of the vote - it's mathematically impossible, given the losses in the conservative base AND the influx of "new" voters.
