Cindy Sheehan is the woman whose kid died in Iraq, right? She's the one asking for a personal meeting with George?

Sorry, I'm not entirely up to speed.

Shit, in this world it is every man for themselves. The government won't protect you, they can't protect you, not from a damn thing.

I come from a highly racist redneck hillbilly family, the family reunion i attended two weeks ago reminded me of that since it was the first time in 10 years i have been.
I heard the "N" word numerous times, most of it from my Dad's mouth and he's supposed to be all saved -n- shit.

Skin color doesn't remove the fact that all people are our brothers and sisters in Christ.
But i won't judge people for their views, it's their free will to do and think as they choose and it isn't me they will answer to for it.

It is however unfortunate that all the people that live there culdn't get out, it is unfortunate that the response took forever because the proper actions weren't taken 2 days before the storm hit because it certainly would have ben much easier to get the people out before hand and not after.
I heard how some people were poor and had no means to leave, THAT'S when the troops should have been rolling in to remove them and take them to the same shelters they are dying to make it to now.

What was i heard a General say? "We don't stage our troops in harms way in these situations and couldn't react until there was something to react to, we thought it had missed us"
Yeah, but you left the people you are sworn to protect in the path of it and the effort should have started BEFORE the storm hit shore.

It's easy math, the levee's couldn't deal with more than a Cat-3, it was a Cat-5 and only diminished to a Cat-4 before hitting....The people in charge, namely the Mayor, dropped the fucking ball and carnage is the result.
Bush is responsible because this shit happened on his watch, period.

It isn't about race, but you can't tell that to the people that see it that way. All they know is that it's day 6 and they still haven't been saved.
and those who want to walk out of there aren't permitted to because they are turned back and told they can't leave.

I'll say this, a soldier would have to flat out shoot my ass to keep me from walking past him.

But for us to sit here and get absorbed into all of this shit that should not even be an issue is fucked.
There will be time enough later for talking and politicizing and finger pointing, GET THE PEOPLE OUT OF THERE!

Send money, send clothes, send food, send water....But everything else is bullshit.

If someone has a gun and shoots at you...shoot back.
What if you don't have a gun?
That doesn't confront me because I DO have guns and WOULD BE shooting back.
We are responsible for ourselves and must use common sense or we're fucked.

            1. I agree with whoever said that a bunch of white people put away their wallets last night...but more than likely reopened it today for someone else collecting money...

            2. Who cares if the fucking guy used this moment to say what he wanted to. You can choose to listen to it, or not.

            3. And to all of you fucking people that are honestly trying to say that it's NOT a fucking race issue is just plain burying your fucking head in the sand. Horseshit. I don't know what planet you live on...or what fucking storybook you are reading out of...but you can bet your ass that it's a race issue...maybe not 100%...but trust me...those people being black is at least 50%...with the guns about 40%...and the conditions about 10%. I'm so fucking sick of the denials that race isn't part of it.

Kanye West can goto hell...he certainly shouldn't be the spokesperson...because he is a fucking hypocrit...but it doesn't mean that whatever he said wasn't true...

The response was slow for whatever reason...and it should have been quicker...

to be honest...the problem started before the storm...I think the US has gotten to fucking slack with these hurricanes to be honest...

They were showing a line of people...obviously poor...waiting for busses the government wer supposed be bringing in to get rid of hundreds if not thousands of the folk that are stuck there...the busses never came...

              bad planning...

blame it on whoever you want...but someone fucked up...

                Here's an article on it...

Kanye West's Torrent of Criticism, Live on NBC

                By Lisa de Moraes

                Saturday, September 3, 2005; Page C01

Why We Love Live Television, Reason No. 137:

NBC's levee broke and Kanye West flooded through with a tear about the federal response in New Orleans during the network's live concert fundraiser for victims of Hurricane Katrina last night.

                The TV Column
Kanye West's Torrent of Criticism, Live on NBC

The rapper was among the celebs and singers participating in the one-hour special, produced by NBC News and run on the NBC broadcast network, as well as MSNBC and CNBC, because, hey, the numbers couldn't be any worse than usual on a Friday night and hopefully they'd raise a chunk of change for a good cause, the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Among the performers, Faith Hill sang "There Will Come a Time," which included the lyrics, "The darkness will be gone, the weak shall be strong. Hold on to your faith." Aaron Neville performed Randy Newman's "Louisiana 1927" with its chorus: "They're trying to wash us away, they're trying to wash us away."

West was not scheduled to perform; he was one of the blah, blah, blahers, who would read from scripts prepared by the network about the impact of Katrina on southern Louisiana and Mississippi.

West and Mike Myers had been paired up to appear about halfway through the show. Their assignment: Take turns reading a script describing the breach in the levees around New Orleans.

Myers: The landscape of the city has changed dramatically, tragically and perhaps irreversibly. There is now over 25 feet of water where there was once city streets and thriving neighborhoods.

(Myers throws to West, who looked extremely nervous in his super-preppy designer rugby shirt and white pants, which is not like the arrogant West and which, in retrospect, should have been a tip-off.)

West: I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a black family, it says, "They're looting." You see a white family, it says, "They're looking for food." And, you know, it's been five days [waiting for federal help] because most of the people are black. And even for me to complain about it, I would be a hypocrite because I've tried to turn away from the TV because it's too hard to watch. I've even been shopping before even giving a donation, so now I'm calling my business manager right now to see what is the biggest amount I can give, and just to imagine if I was down there, and those are my people down there. So anybody out there that wants to do anything that we can help -- with the way America is set up to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off, as slow as possible. I mean, the Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize a lot of people that could help are at war right now, fighting another way -- and they've given them permission to go down and shoot us!

(West throws back to Myers, who is looking like a guy who stopped on the tarmac to tie his shoe and got hit in the back with the 8:30 to La Guardia.)

Myers: And subtle, but in many ways even more profoundly devastating, is the lasting damage to the survivors' will to rebuild and remain in the area. The destruction of the spirit of the people of southern Louisiana and Mississippi may end up being the most tragic loss of all.

(And, because Myers is apparently as dumb as his Alfalfa hair, he throws it back to West.)

West: George Bush doesn't care about black people!

(Back to Myers, now looking like the 8:30 to La Guardia turned around and caught him square between the eyes.)

                Myers: Please call . . .

At which point someone at NBC News finally regained control of the joystick and cut over to Chris Tucker, who started right in with more scripted blah, blah, blah.

"Tonight's telecast was a live television event wrought with emotion," parent company NBC Universal said in a statement issued to the Reporters Who Cover Television after the broadcast.

"Kanye West departed from the scripted comments that were prepared for him, and his opinions in no way represent the views of the networks. It would be most unfortunate if the efforts of the artists who participated tonight and the generosity of millions of Americans who are helping those in need are overshadowed by one person's opinion."

West's comments would be cut from the West Coast feed, an NBC spokeswoman told The TV Column. (The Associated Press later reported that only his comment about the president was edited out.) The show was live on the East Coast with a several-second delay; someone with his finger on a button was keeping an ear peeled in case someone uttered an obscenity but did not realize that West had gone off-script, the spokeswoman said.
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."

Watching Myers really was priceless...and he really did fuck up as well...cutting back to Kanye after the fuck up...

and when Kanye blurted out..."George Bush hates black people..."

Myers ripped his head sideways like someone slammed him with a sledgehammer...lmfao...

it really had a sick sort of humor to it...

Ah, whatever. Fuck Kanye and his billions of dollars he had handed to him for doing nothing musical, anyway.

The point is, these people need to get the fuck out of there, period. We've done our bit to help, EVERYBODY here should also.

They could have gotten another 50-100k people out. Where is the criticism of that Kanye? Or can black people not hate black people too?

                      Good point.

The mayor of New Orleans is partly to blame, as well as the Governor, for this tragedy as well as the Federal government.

The buses. The school buses. WTF?

New Orleans was bragging about how they had "dodged the bullet" on Tuesday morning, the day after the storm. The levees gave way a few hours later. Whet were the people still doing at the Superdome? The mayor bears SOME responsibility for not evacuating his people.

I don't think this New Orleans fiasco started out as a race issue.

                          I really don't.

Too many people have also been neglected all along the Gulf Coast and inland. A lot of these people are white.

I do, however, think it was a major fuck-up on the part of the Mayor of New Orleans, the Governor of Louisiana and the other States, and the Federal Government. Like Pojo said, nobody was prepared. NOBODY. The body count is going to be enormous as a result.

That being said, this IS quickly escalating into a race issue with all of the statements being hurled in the media. I've been listening to Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Carol Mosely Braun all spew their venom in the media just making me ill. Anything to get their time on CNN, I guess.

Kayne West gives himself too much credit. I honestly cannot stand the PDIDDY wanna be. If he really cared he would make a substantial contribution, let the press talk about that. The Race Card is getting stale, really stale.
