Funny, but the older I get, the less I think the likes of Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and John Oliver are part of the solution.

Am I becoming a fascist because I'm appreciating the likes of Douglas Murray and Peter Hitchens more and more?

I would never have thought as recently as 5 years ago that I'd ever begin to identify as a conservative, but I have to say, it has happened/is happening.

Not sure I'd qualify as maga, since I voted against Trump in 2016 and 2020 (abstained from voting this past year). I'm actually harder to the right of Trump on immigration, but not sure in the least that tariffs - and seemingly arbitrarily coming up with percentage amounts to bandy about publicly - are a useful economic strategy. I don't consider abortion rights as particularly crucial ...and never really have. I never thought even as much as aiding Ukraine via military hardware was something that was in line with U.S. interests abroad, and that was my belief even before Trump had announced he was running in 2015.

If someone wants to synthesize what I stated above and let me know what they think I am, okay, fine.

                You sound fairly normal Terry....

If you have to use labels... I've been an Independent as far as political registration goes most of my life and align with moderate values. My preferences align with fiscal conservative values... less government, regulation and I'd rather not send my money to Washington... less is better. We waste too much money, time and resources outside of the US funding things for people who hate us...

Even if you strip all morality away about helping people in foreign countries not die a lot of these policies are just plain dumb and against the US self interest. Trump fundamentally doesn't understand soft power and how useful it is. China is moving in and moping up all these countries where the resources are.

Also in basic terms in the past if some horrible disease broke out in Africa like ebola the USAID would help lead international teams to stop it spreading. So fine now the attitude is fuck them let them die but umm diseases spread from country to country. The China Virus that broke his last presidency started in umm China. If you send aid to countries whose crops are fucked by climate change it's a hell of a lot cheaper than having to deport them when they go looking for resources.

Of course the worse ever was the so called Spanish flu of 1918 which started in the USA and killed 50 million but that could never happen now under the stewardship of the 'dumbest member of the Kennedy family', the ex heroin addict lawyer who is now in charge of all that stuff....

You not independent, you are obsessed with and propagate "DEI" myths and every socially divisive MAGA shitard talking point. FFS you voted against everything you proclaim. Less "gov't regulation"? Like tariffs that the Executive Branch doesn't even have the authority to install? Holy fuck old man, like sending the Nat'l Guard to "liberal high crime cities"? (USANG from red state fucktard lands like Missouri that actually have vastly higher per capita murder rates)....

Well Sesh, stupid and petty people can't see the forest through the trees, like USAID was a way to maintain and propagate US influence in emerging markets. It was aid and benevolence but it was also benevolent, ENLIGHTEND self-interest. But hey, like every cliche retard level high school boy we'll complain about "foreign aid" as we just let some of the most resource rich nations fumble fuck their way to China as the Chump administration destroys all US credibility and alienates the world as we let the Chinese take over and we rot like the old, desiccating pedo himself...

That's why the Indian and Chinese leaders were laughing at us today, because our ignorance is our weakness and we are losing....

Damn... your assumptions get the better of you. I don't support nor agree with the use of military personnel to address civilian crime problems. Border security at the border is as far as I want military involvement on US soil.

I agree... Trump's use of tariffs is most likely outside of the executive branch's constitutional authority. I do like fairer trade deals but never felt tariffs were a good approach to that end.

I've seen more really bad business decisions and failures from DEI influenced policies in corporate America than successes based on merit and treating people equally no matter their race, religion, gender or ancestral origin.

You can like fairer trade deals all you like but you aren't going to get any by imposing massive tariffs on India because they didn't recommend Trump for a Nobel Prize.

You know how much work and time it takes to do a trade deal, you think these yes men and golf buddies have the discipline to do that? You think all these countries can be bullied with tariffs which are basically a big new sales tax for Americans?

In just 6 months the US is fast pissing away all it's soft power and economic power which only leaves military power..

On the positive front at least Trump has made a fortune on crypto so that's something I guess.

I don't know anyone that went on vacation from here to the US this summer.

Biggest source of tourism in the US is Canada and it's down 25%.

It's interesting... all the talk of tariffs being this big tax for Americans. Frankly I've been trying to find evidence of this impact in my daily expenses and not finding any noticeable cost increases with the exception of olive oil and Guinness beer have gone up slightly. Produce has been steady and going down slightly. Most of the food we buy is grown/produced in the US.

Tourism in my area has seen steady growth since Covid... but I don't encounter many international travelers on our lake and river.

But I'll be heading out your way this coming spring Sesh and plan to inject plenty of US money into your economy with stops in Ireland, Scotland and England. I hope y'all won't mind an old guy visiting to check out some of the beautiful places you have and meet interesting and nice people who talk funny...
