I want a party that can be socially liberal; fiscally conservative; provides PROPER military support; and is tough on crime and immigration. Unfortunately, that party doesn't exist.

If they got rid of the GST, would they put the 13% hidden tax back on manufactured goods? Most Canadians don't realize that there were hidden taxes dropped by the implementation of GST.

As for cronyism, I believe it's in ALL parties, the libs just happened to get caught. M, if you've been on these boards for very long, you would know that my #1 issue is US/Canada relations. I want a party that will continue to give GW the finger and I strongly feel that we need to strengthen ties with other trading partners. The bottom's going to fall out down south eventually, and I don't want to be attached when it does! There are valuable lessons to be learned from both softwood lumber and the BSE crisis.

My "anti-American" stance is well known on these boards. Most times if someone slams Canada, it's to get a rise out of me. They know my buttons, and they know how to push them.

Harper is a pussy and will lose this election again because he doesn't know how to attack the Liberals when they're weak and can't seem to get away from issues that east-coaster want dropped (same-sex marriage and abortion). We really need another east-coast conservative but they seem to be few and far between now days.

Your ideal party matches mine identically; must be an east-coast thing. My vote just can't go to these Liberal criminals and liars. I voted for them to oust the previous Conservative criminals and liars but haven't done so again. Once the lying ways become too obvious I flip. My number one concern is accountability and no multi-term government has ever succeeded in convincing me they're honest. My ideal system would have all 3 major parties simply rotating into power every 4-5 years. Don't give them enough time to get comfortable and sneaky and dishonest, while each successive government can fix the problems of the last.

We all knew about the hidden taxes. What would replace the GST was irrelevant. The Liberals had to keep the promise to get rid of it and didn't. It was promised! Shame on them.

We'll have to disagree on the anti-American thing, however. For me it already stung too much to side with the French on the Iraq war. Now we're increasing trade with China? No, thanks. I'll keep my allegiances with the US over those alternatives.

Can't be east-coast. I'm in Edmonton. FYI - I voted Liberal last time to keep Harper out, and previous to that I voted Alliance in an attempt to increase the Opposition. I'd love to just once vote for someone because it's the person I think is capable of running this country. I'm sick of voting strategically to keep others out. To be honest, I have no idea what I'm going to do this time around. I saw the NDP run BC into the ground...but I don't know what other choice I have.

By the way, it was Chretien that promised to get rid of GST his first term. I don't remember it ever being promised again after that. Although I could be wrong. I don't listen to their promises, they don't keep them anyway. :D
