Elvis in Memphis was better than anything the Stones did in the 60's. And that was released in 1968.
As you all may know, I'm a SoCal/San Diego native. Having lived through the worst years of my life in Detroit, I absolutely love Seattle. It's not San Diego, but it'll do after what I've been through. lol
Don't get me wrong, Elvis is one of the greatest performers of all times and he paved the way for the rest. His '68 Comeback special when he hit the stage solo in his leather is pure electricity.
But I don't think he ever wrote one song that he sang.
The Stones are unparalled in rock in that manner as far as I'm concerned. They can't all be gems, but they're true.
I actually would love for DLR to somewhat parody that comeback special.
It would be a blast. In the round. Open w/ Ice Cream Man. Tell the middle aged guy in the fron row "shut up tubby, or Im gonna fuck your wife.......er daughter

They had a few good songs in the 70's, but that's about it...
U2 sucks even worse...
Presley had a few good songs in the '50's, but that's about it. I'll put the Stones catalog up against Elvis anytime. And as DD said, the Stones actually WROTE songs too. Undoubtedly, Elvis made a huge contribution to rock and roll, but his impact was more cultural than musical, and he fucked a lot of that up with the movies. IMO, Elvis is overrated as a rock artist.
