I thought that was hilarious! Our news media here hailed it is the second biggest story of the evening on Mothers Day saying Howard was heckled in Washington...and then they showed the footage and I'm like, "Oh, so it's only one guy then?" lol

It's a good question. Much of it had alot to do with the Bali bombings on 12th October 2002 which resulted with the deaths of 202 people including 88 Australians who were the prime targets, coupled with Howard's desires to maintain strong diplomatic and economic relations with the United States. Howard has always maintained, with good reason, that Australia has always been target for terrorism way before our involvement in the Iraq war due to our western values but specifically our involvement in East Timor, which our troops have now withdrawn from after so many years. Bin Laden even mentioned this through one of his many videos of threats and defiance against the "western infidels".

To be fair on Howard, naturally he did not want to go to war but felt that it was an obligation and in our country's best interests. He advised that he "tossed and turned" in his bed for nights pondering on the right decision and made a national televised announcement citing grounds to join the Americans and British in the war and said that it was "legal". IMHO I guess he succumbed to the Intelligence failures of identifying links between Iraq and Bin Laden and the so-called WMOs.

          Difficult one this.

If he pulls out now, then it makes him look like a half-assed pussy who doesn't stick by his decisions.

However, I don't think the issue will be solved in my lifetime.

And people should be able to heckle whenever the fuck they like!

Sometimes the politicians just don't want to hear views that will piss 'em off.

how can anyone spend any amount of time in a room with Cheneny and not bitch slap him?

Anyone that right-wing has got to have something wrong with them, right?

Not sure to be honest. I did a quick google and seems to be about 850 Australian troops deployed to Iraq, mainly carrying out specialist functions such as air traffic control, air transport, aerial maritime patrols and maritime interception. Poultrey figures compared to the United States. We just recently suffered our first soldier casualty in the war supposedly by accidental gunfire by his own hand. There was a huge debacle in the aftermath of his death where our military brought the wrong body home for his family's identification.
