Republicans benefit from falling gas prices

Republicans benefit from falling gas prices

    (MCT)

WASHINGTON - Gasoline prices have been falling in recent weeks all across the country to the relief of motorists - and Republicans.

Sticker shock at the gas pump has been a hot-button election issue for Democrats, but it's the White House and House GOP that are now trumpeting news of declining costs.

There were predictions just last month that Americans would soon be paying $4 a gallon, but the average price nationwide Wednesday for a gallon of regular was $2.60, a 40-cent drop from a month ago, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

Gas prices in the past month dipped 31 cents in New York State and 38 cents in New Jersey, but still remained above the national average, AAA reported.

To the delight of the GOP in Ohio, Missouri and Tennessee, where Republicans are defending vulnerable Senate seats, gas is selling up to 30 cents below the national average.

"Falling gasoline prices effectively act like a tax cut for American families who've been feeling the pinch at the gas pump, lowering their cost of living and putting more money in their wallet," said House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio.

Democrats have repeatedly slammed the White House and the GOP for failing to counter the more than $3-a-gallon reality that many Americans had faced.

"The thing that really stuns me about Republicans is they think Americans are happy paying $45 instead of $50 to fill their gas tanks. It's still a lot of money, and this Congress has done nothing to bring prices down," said Bill Burton, Democratic congressional campaign committee spokesman.

Meanwhile, a law limiting city gasoline stations to one price increase per 24 hours passed after the City Council overrode Mayor Bloomberg's veto.

The law puts gasoline retailers on notice that "it's not fair to raise prices willy-nilly to make more money when your costs really aren't going up," said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, D-Manhattan.

Stuff like this is always very suspiscious to me when it benefits the party in power, no matter which party that is.
I've got the cure you're thinkin' of.

Interesting Warham how you gloat and defend a party that shits all over you for 18-months out of every two years, at least, and yet you love it!

It's like you're a battered wife or something.

I understand why the gas prices went up, and it's got nothing to do with evil Republicans.

Therefore, I gloat only because I know it'll make you libs filled with rage.

Thanks for admitting you're an easily manipulated good-bitch that enjoys voting against his own interests there chickenhawker.

Yeah, the Republican Administration that is heavily tied to the oil industry, that used a national tragedy to justify a war in an oil rich country to drive up prices.

It's great that gas prices have eased some in the past few weeks, but let's face it, they are still too high and way higher than they should be. $2.30 a gallon is better than $2.98, every little bit helps, but I'd like to see it back in the $1.50 range, ideally. I'm very suspicious about the timing of these prices going down. It's like the big oil companies, since the Republicans are basically big oil friendly and good for big oil, are lowering prices just before the November election so that it will help ease the anger of the voting public towards Republicans and thus help the Republican imcumbents get reelected, which in turn keeps big oil's puppets in office and ultimately benefits them. I guarantee the prices will skyrocket back up immediately after the November election...bet on it, unless another convenient excuse to raise prices such as a hurricane comes along before then.

Just remember this, folks, before you go to the polls and vote. These are the same bastards that were in office when prices were at or above $3.00 a gallon, depending on what part of the country you live in, and did JACK SHIT at the time to help ease the burden of the high gas prices for you and your family. You suffered while they turned a deaf ear to your cries for relief. Even though the prices will be lower, I'm not going to forget how they fucked us when I vote at the polls. Someone has to pay for that shit, and they are hopefully going to pay dearly by being kicked out on their asses come November! If the bastards are reelected, it will just be more of the same in the near future...when prices go back up over $3.00, and they will, they will just turn their deaf ear again, and we'll suffer even more while big oil rakes in the dough at our, and our ecconomy's, expense.

I love how WarPIG "grins" over this.

He can't brag about any real success this administration has had....

But let them manipulate gas prices before the election, and he thinks they're all that.

                  LMMFAO

                  How pathetic.

If the BCE hadn't been such complete dicks to Venezeula, the price of oil would be so low that even war with ran couldn't justify a FAKE shortage.

Bottom line. When these pigs are setting new profit records every fucking quarter, there is no shortage.

Had we NOT invaded Iraq, gas prices would MUCH higher.

Yes, of course. Please don't doubt Warhead's extensive knowledge of the oil industry and gasoline markets.

Fuel prices falling shortly before an election must be pure coincidence. If the prices rise after the election, that too will be considered coincidence by experts like Warhead.

No rage here. More like sorrow because of the partisan stupidity you insist on displaying with every post.

                            Depends on what Saddam did.

I've heard two entirely different stories.

One is that he was planning on opening the taps and flooding the market with oil, which would have forced the market price down.

The other is that Saddam was about to switch to Euros over dollars as his trading currency. This could have indeed made oil a little more expensive here, but I doubt it would have doubled the price.

As I said in another thread on the subject of oil, I wish that Chavez would flood the market with Venezuelan oil right now, since he's probably the only one with the ability to do so. Besides the Saudis, of course. And we all know they aren't gonna do it.

In either case, only an IDIOT would believe that Chimpy and his rubberstamp KKKongress did anything to lower the gas prices.
