Ken's Commentary: Rare Defense Of The President
September 21, 2006
By Associated Press
SEATTLE - I am not a fan of President George W. Bush.
I know, I know.
That comes as no surprise to anyone who's ever heard me rant on the President's policies, politics or vocabulary.
I just wanted to make that point perfectly clear before stating the following: I do not think that President Bush is the devil.
Moreover, despite never having been within sniffing proximity of the President, I seriously doubt if there is anything like the odor of sulphur left wafting in his wake.
I mention this because Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez felt positively compelled to insultingly harangue Mr. Bush during his ill-advised trip to a United Nations podium.
I think that at some level Chavez thought he was being funny, but the humor must have gotten lost in the translation.
At any rate, I'm not often afforded the opportunity to rally in defense of President Bush, so I didn't want to squander this one.
Taking a cue from the likes of Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, I'm hoping that a little pandering to conservatives will go a long way.
So, allow me to reiterate: I do not think that President George W. Bush is the devil.
Just don't ask me what I think of Dick Cheney.
