The Dow has never been higher, unemployment is - on paper - down, and many gov't entitlement programs have been greatly reduced. Say what you will, the economy HAS done well, especially in light of the downturn that was already in place BEFORE Bush took office, and how bad it could have gotten after 9/11.

Thats the response I normally get about it..

It matters to us because our economies are so closely tied. Something which most Canadians are aware of, but Americans for some reason don't receive that education. It seems like you guys are taught about America only in school, and your knowledge of the rest of the world (including your closest ally, neighbour, and biggest trading partner) is based on supposition and myth. However, as your economy is sliding, ours is growing by leaps & bounds, which is pretty amazing really, because with our high dollar, manufacturing and tourism take a giant blow.

As for free Health Care, there is NO SUCH THING! We pay for our healthcare. In some provinces there are premiums, in others they are covered by taxes.

Oh, and by the way, Canada is a capitalist nation, not socialist.
